These are a few pictures from my favourite nursery in the West Midlands….I would go as far as saying the best nursery in the country.
Carol Klein will be talking with John Massey the owner of Ashwood Nurseries on TV this Friday 13th March…8.00 Gardeners World Special.
The Nursery is immaculate I have never seen a plant with weed in the pot or a plant that has been blown over, all the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable.
These photos show just a small section of what is for sale.
We have just returned South after a visit to Ashwood, where we both enjoyed freshly made scones and Danish pastries…yes the restaurant is bloomin good as well.
So if ever you are travelling around the West Midlands make sure you include Johns Nursery to your agenda, you wont regret it.

John came all the way to Cornwall to give a lecture to our Hardy Plant Society & brought wonderful slides of his Hellebores, nursery & private garden. I'd love to visit, but such a long way.

I love the way those hellebores are shown in the bird bath.
Where abouts is this nursery?

~Kingswinford is where it is and unfortunately it is about 200 odd miles from Swansea so don't go as often as I would like ~ they make their own compost~Supergro etc and the plants are excellent~lovely range of Alpines, books etc ~unfortunately never been when their Hellebores were in flower...next year definitely!

Wow DD, what a fantastic looking nursery. Its so big!! We don't have such big ones around here. I am amazed too that it has its own restaurant too. What a great idea....you could spend all day there and not even have to leave to eat!! I love the helebores in the bird bath...they look lovely there.

Gilli ~most Gardencentres have very nice Restaurants especailly the big ones|you can get homecooked dinners and gateau my ffather used to love to go to Heighleygate in Newcastle, and I remember Ayletts in St Albans for their home made cake~it's half the pleasure of going!
Last year I could have done a good guide of food for all the GC's we went to!

We often make the journey there - it's well-worth the effort. They have plants we haven't seen in other nurseries. The owner, John, has a lovely private garden which he opens to the public, with proceeds going to local charities. The February opening last year was spectacular. This year it was hampered by the snow.
They are renowned for their helebores and have bred a type where the flowers look upwards - so you don't have to grow them on a bank to see inside the flowers.
Mark - the head gardener in John's garden is now a frequent visitor at our garden where he has given us excellent advice regarding the pruning of our new silver birch: betula Jacquemontii.
