Hello everyone,
I’m sorry that I’ve been on the silent side for a while now. We are still in a deep freeze here and it looks like it will continue for quite a while. We’re up to our knees in hard packed frozen snow with another major snow storm predicted for this coming Thursday and three other major storms for this month. I must say that I have a good case of cabin fever. I just can’t wait to be able to get outside again but that wont happen until the first of April or so. We haven’t seen the ground since the beginning of December…
This is what I’m very anxious to see..
In the mean time I have to say that it’s great coming into GOY and seeing green and flowering plants. I envy those of you who are already starting your spring plantings.

Maxi likes the snow and the cold doesn't seem to bother. When she goes out to do her business she still takes her sweet old time sniffing everything in her path. The rain is what she doesn't like. It does look very tropical in the basement and that helps. All my plants in the kitchen and office which are slowly squeezing me out help to get through.

Well all I can say is roll on April, then Mike !

April can't come soon enough. This is a good time for getting inside projects done. I have a carpenter starting a kitchen remodel tomorrow. I'm having new counter tops and sink put in. Always exciting and great to get something new in the house.

Yes there is that...will mean more time outdoors when the snows finally gone !

Take care Mike and hope it's not too long before the new shoots of spring appear for you. We have had heavy snow here - the first for 20 years (see my blogs and photos.)
All best wishes.

I like the before and after photo,s mike , I found some very old sepia postcard photos of a place about 60 miles away from us , as an experiment we decided to go and find these places and take modern photos standing in the same places , it was quite weird , in one of the old photos there was a picture of a very pretty country lane turning a corner ...in the modern photo that we took as you approached the same corner it is now a huge housing estate .there were big changes in all the other postcards as well .. we now have before and after pics. of all the old places
I know we shouldn,t wish our time away but its difficult when you badly want the nice weather to hurry up , take care Mike .. and I hope your kitchen turns out beautifully . !

Well said Amy...could tell you a tale or too about going back in time but for now,,roll on spring and lets us all count our blessings !
8 Feb, 2009
I,d like to hear them BB when you have the time !

Ok Amy..went back recently to Janes old home..a post office in the countryside, with a bit of land. They used to grow veg,and keep chickens, and the old barn was where they kept the coal and parrafin for the heaters.A few years on and the barn has been demolished, the old railway carriaged where the chickens used to roost gone. All been very tastefully landscaped now.Wheelbarrows of plants where the chickens used to peck, and lots of flowerbeds. Its called progress !

Ahh what a shame . you feel as though the heart has been ripped out and replaced by something not real .
I remember when I was young in a village ..they had a very old cobbler ( at least he seemed old to us then ) everybody took their shoes to him to be mended , cleets on new ones .etc. his cottage was a bit worse for wear and the shed he worked in , he would always chat to us . I can see him now , I went back years later expecting to see him sitting in his doorway .. it was gone and a newly renovated place stood there instead , I could have cried , I expect Jane felt like that ..
It,s lucky that we have our memories .

I really feel for you, Mike. I remember last year when your snow stayed for a long time, too. You showed us your indoor garden and it was so beautiful. That must be a help for you.
Yes, we have had snow and more is forecast. No comparison with yours, though!

Amy..Jane here..thanks...you understand perfectly : )

~in some respects it is probably best not to go back and just have your memories~I went back to where I was born some years ago and where long rows of stone cottages stood over looking the sea there was just grass and a carpark!

I just very much enjoyed reading all your comments. It is a good thing that we have our memories because as time goes by things are going to change like it or not.

Yes, that is true. Nothing ever stays the same. Nothing will ever be just as we remember. It's sad in a way and very easy to get lost in nostalgia.
But, those changes are going to be someone elses history in time. And those changes will change and the a new set of memories will be in someone elses mind. And someone else will long for the way things were.
And so on and so on.....Probably has been that way since the beginning of time.
Mike, spring will soon be here. I fully understand your cabin fever having it myself. Enjoy your renovations. I hope they look great.

Mike your garden looks so great in summer. It seems a long way off for you. We've had much more snow than usual here last week but it's clearing now. You have all my sympathy .

What a contrast between your winter and summer photos. Both very beautiful in their own way but I must admit I prefer to green lush versions!
