Mike C's Blog (26) New windows for plants...

Hi Everyone,
Many of you already know that I am very much into house plants especially cacti and succulents. My collection keeps growing and so are the plants in size. There is a small room on the side of my house that I use as a combination office and plant room. Originally it was a porch that was eventually closed off. When the house was originally built in 1922 there were windows on three walls. For whatever reason someone decided to take out two side by side windows on the southern wall. I recently decided that I wanted to have the windows put back as the southern exposure is perfect for my plants. The work was done this past week and I am very happy with the results. The room is very bright during the day and there is just the right amount of sun hitting my plants. The room looks more like a solarium now. I have the room quite crowded with the computer desk and plants but because of the two new windows the room feels much bigger. I have a gold velvet chair in the corner which is the dogs chair. It’s her favorite place to nap and she spends a lot of time with her front paws on the arm of the chair looking out the window. When I arrive home from work I can always count on her looking out the window watching for me. When the carpenter removed the vinyl siding and then the plywood covering the old window openings, the plywood was stamped and dated 1976 by the manufacturer. So 33 years latter, the sun is coming through the wall again and that’s a good thing :)
Happy gardening everyone…

I can't understand anyone blocking up a south facing window. Well done for having it put back. It's much better. Your plants must be happy too.

Mike, that is SUCH an improvement. It looks as though your plants love it, and I'm sure you do too. I think it would be my favourite place to be, surrounded by such lovely plants. Well done! Is that a rat-tail cactus just right of the lamp? I've never seen one that big! Wow!!

Wow, it looks fantastic Mike! It didn't take long for you to fill that space with plants, lol! I'll bet they, and you, enjoy the room much more now.
