Merry Christmas to you all

We seemed to have lost the festive sense but isn’t this what Christmas should really be all about ?
These are some not very good photos of the crib at St. Peter’s in the Vatican last year.
God bless you all and look after your families, friends and pets.

Auguri! What's your weather forecast like, Terry? Any public holidays to enjoy the snow? We are due to get Nevi Grosse on Tuesday, so this afternoon is devoted to getting in a cellarful of logs.

Thank you Anella.
Auguroni to you too Gattina. I don't think we'll be getting nevi grosse, altho' "they're" threatening us with temps in the mid teens!! If ever we do get snow here, it's a festa locale (see a blog I wrote in Feb of last year !!)
Despite the mild weather, I still love to light my fire and talk to the crackling flames - lucky I have a very healthy supply of logs ...

Its not difficult to lose sight of the true festival when there is such a shopping frenzy on , especially here in the UK . Thanks Terry for a timely reminder and the lovely pictures .

What an amazing crib - still, if the Vatican can't do it who can? I don't imagine the original stable would bear much resemblance to it though!

Thank you, thank you - all of you. I'm glad you like the pictures and what they represent - it's really quite breathtaking to be there, especially when the lights are on, and absorb the "feeling" ....
I haven't got round yet to seeing this year's crib at the Vatican - but I will and hopefully post pictures very soon xxxxx

It's really strange this year, Terry, normally every little town has it's own presepio, but this year we haven't seen one. There's a little natural grotto in the mountainside on the road down from Castel D'Aiano to Vergato, and every year the locals place the figures and the straw and the lights, and it's really beautiful and looks so natural, but this year, nothing! Surely cutbacks can't be THAT bad?

It may not just be the financial cutbacks Gattina - I reckon it's the festive "spirit" that's lacking this year. With all this recently declared doom and gloom, there is a frown on most people's faces and in their hearts ...

Lovely to see your photos, Terry. Happy Christmas to you and every good wish for the New Year too.

You could be right, Terry. My friend Angela and I were discussing what is likely to happen over the coming year, and she turned to me in all seriousness and said - "We Italians need someone who cares for his country the way your Mr Cameron does." I have heard Italians wishing that a saviour in the form of an Italian Maggie Thatcher or Angela Merckel would ride to the rescue. A lot of our friends have said things along the same lines, saying, "At least your politicians don't do it for themselves, but for their country." Not viewpoints everyone in the UK would hold, but she maybe has a point.
Sorry, Goyers, I'm breaking the rules by writing about politics. Slapped wrists.
