Carpets of flowers - Corpus Domini

This event takes place every year to celebrate the festival of Corpus Domini (Corpus Christi) . Carpets of fresh flowers, intricately designed with decorative and religious symbols, are laid out along the old streets and in the squares in front of the two churches. In some of the bigger cities, the designs created are real works of art

Wow that is amazing - thanks for these photos. It must take a long time to create some of these designs. Something to see!

It does seem to take a lot work but because this hilltop town is so small - population of under 1,000 - there is still a vibrant sense of community spirit - starting from the little old biddies down to the children. Everybody joins in both the work and the ensuing enjoyment of the celebrations of this tradition.
I'm so glad you all like them. Next year, I'm hoping to go to a town that is renowned for the beauty of their flower/petal masterpieces

There's no reason why it can't be done Ian - 'cept of course you'd have to have a little talk in the weather man's left ear 'ole - no wind and no rain is rather imperative !!!!!

Ah thanks Bornagain - thankfully he is back to his old tricks and playful self - he had some check up tests today just to make sure that everything is ok - will have results in a few days - but the expression on his little face fills me with great confidence !!!

Thanks Marguerite - our town is very small so the designs are quite modest in comparison to some of the fantastic creations of bigger countryside cities - it's a wonder there are so many coloured petals in nature to go round ....
