Thought i’d write a short blog to explain why i’ve not been on Goy for a week or two. Work has been really busy recently with quite a lot of sickleave etc. so I have been working extra hours to cover (and the money will be handy for xmas). I work in social care work, caring for people with dementia etc, which is really stressful at times.
Most of my work is carried out around our local seaside resort of Porthcawl, I have posted a few pics of the area on a previous blog.
Anyway I thought i’d add a few more photos of the area to give you an idea of my working environment.
Its a hard life but someones got to do it lol……….

This is the view from the main Porthcawl road….

and this…..

this also..

theres also a couple of fresh water lakes……

i knew there were at least two families of swans there….

couldn’t believe how big a swans feet were….

i did manage to get a couple of pics of the signets…….

but the adults are so protective of their young….

beautiful creatures though…..

also managed to get a few shots of the harbour…….

early this morning…….

before the crowds appear….

some of the surrounding area……

you can just see the funfair in the distance…think its closed for winter….

and a stroll along the prom……

…prom….

….prom…..

Hard old life ... indeed! What a lovely place to live and work ... there's nothing quite like living near the sea! Your photos were brilliant - thanks for sharing your gorgeous part of the world.

Wow what a beautiful place . thank-you for sharing it with us.I want to go there and see it for myself.

Thanks Bernieh, isn't it funny how we don't always appreciate where we live, it is lovely though.....especially in winter when theres not so many people around... but where would we be without the tourism and the money it brings to the area.

sorry Tulsalady we crossed then, yes it is beautiful it does have its "not so nice areas" though, like most places i guess but definetly worth a visit :o)

Aliwya you do need to de-stress and what better place in which to do it. Even though you live there, as you say, there's nothing like the sound of waves to do it. It is such a forever sound, since the beginning of time and for ever.
I realise just how stressful your job is, but it is such an important one, you are much more valuable than a b.....MP
and I don't expect you claim for Duck Houses or to have your Pool cleaned out!

Lovely place to live and work I love swans and that they mate for life.

5 Oct, 2009

Thanks guys, it is a worthwhile job your right and most of the time very enjoyable......your right about expenses Mad we've got to practically beg to get a new uniform lol, and no duck house expenses allowed either!
Drc yes its amazing to think the swans stay together for life......but i didn't realise (until someone told me yesterday) that apparently they chase their young off when they become a certain age.....don't know if its just the young males they chase though!
oh well best get ready to go back to work now....xx

I know!!! I've had a brilliant idea!!!! why dont we swap houses and then you can de-stress here in Manchester to the sound of the cornflakes factory rumbling and the house alarms going off at 8am, then theres the car stereo's being played LOUDLY and finally you can relax with a stroll along the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal and see all the debris floating past, Mmmm how about that then Aliwya .... Aliwya ..... Helloooo Aliwyaaaa now where did she go?

5 Oct, 2009

think i'll pass on that Bobq, but i really do appreciate the offer lol.....be thinking of you while i'm working away this evening........to the sound of the ocean :o) ali x

Oh - so many lovely memories of Porthcawl. I still visit a few times a year. I was born and brought up in Margam and of course, Porthcawl was our 'day out'. I would love to move there but Hubby says as we've been 45 years away from home (only near Chepstow though) we won't know anyone any more. Still, I love visiting and I always buy my shoes in Porthcawl (best shoe shops around). When we visit the area we also go into Cornelly for our lunch. We go to the Green Acre which is definitely not posh but I love the meals there. There's also a £1 shop in Porthcawl where I buy (more junk) bits for the garden. I envy you living in Porthcawl and thank you for the wonderful photos.

6 Oct, 2009

She's probably eaten it San and doesn't realise. On the occasion that I have a bar in the fridge, it is not uncommon to come home from work, have tea and pop to fridge for something sweet and......OH, Ali got to mine first COS SHE ATE ALL HERS!!!!!

6 Oct, 2009

it's all lies and you can't prove a thing :o)

7 Oct, 2009

On the subject of chocolate, I overheard my son 2 weeks ago telling a friend of his that his gran used to buy him a pack of Mars bars, and his mum (me!) would eat the lot in an evening and have to go out and buy more to replace it... AND ITS TRUE! Oh, the shame...

7 Oct, 2009

lol Dan, i must admit i have done that with baz`s choc to :o))

7 Oct, 2009

Bamboo you must not admit it, anyway a mars a day helps you work rest and play...... we were encouraged to eat them lol :o)

7 Oct, 2009

Yes, indeed, but 5 mars bars a day is probably a bit too much - no wonder I've got sky high cholesterol, lol.

7 Oct, 2009

really bamboo, you can eat 5 in a day,, one is enough for me then i feel sick lol

7 Oct, 2009

By far, the best chocolate on the market right now is the new Caramel KIT KAT CHUNKY...........

Never been a fan of kit kat but this bar is just the business!! Highly recommended out of the fridge!!

YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMY!!!

Good luck tomorrow Sandra. We're both thinking of you:0)

7 Oct, 2009

havent tried kitkat caramel yet, so will now you said that, thanx for you well wishes Dan and Ali :o) x

8 Oct, 2009

Oh no, that's the last thing I need, another chocolate bar that I might like... And yes Sanbaz, I could eat 5, but not now - get sugar shock, so I only eat sweeties after protein to avoid it. And I think I could probably only manage 3 in a day now, spaced out.

8 Oct, 2009

whats sugar shock bamboo? anything to do with diabetis

8 Oct, 2009

No, not in my case - just getting older! I never used to notice it till I got to about late thirties, early forties and it took me a while to work out what it was. I'd feel a bit shaky, elevated heart rate and then terribly tired for an hour, and someone I knew said it was "sugar shock". And they were right. If you eat a chocolate bar on an empty stomach, if it has nuts in it (like a picnic, say) you don't get the "shock" because the peanuts slow the sugar down in the gut, so it doesn't get straight into the bloodstream, cos that's what's happening - when you eat sugar on an empty stomach, the sugars in it are in your bloodstream within 20 minutes, and until your pancreas has time to shoot out enough insulin to offset, you feel shaky and wobbly - and then it overcompensates with too much insulin, so then you feel really tired... Sorry to go on, hope you found it interesting;-))

8 Oct, 2009

Had a KKC tonight and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!

Go on guys n gals, try one.....you know you want to!!

8 Oct, 2009

glad to learn these things bamboo, thats for sharing, hope you didnt mind me asking :o) i like learning things about our bodys,

8 Oct, 2009

Oh good - doesn't mean you can't eat sweeties or chocs, just better on top, or with, protein. So that old thing about giving kids their sweets after dinner wasn't just to do with getting them to eat proper food - it's actually better for the body anyway.
And Oddbillie, I've already had two Crunchies and a packet of jelly beans..
