Anyone want a lawnmower??????

We have had it in mind for some time to do away with the lawn in the back garden. The grass is not very good….and OH doesn’t always feel like mowing it….sooo…..we decided to lay it down to slate, like we did with the front garden last year.

Last week we put in place the log edging…..the the Lakeland slate was delivered yesterday.

Brian started to barrow the slate through to the back garden, where I was waiting to rake it over the weed suppressing membrane I laid thismorning.

Nearly there…!

Thats it…finished……took about an hour

Very smart AA! Did you just lay the membrane on top of the turf? Only I can tell you from bitter experience that lifting turf is an exhausting job!! lol :))

Thanks Sandra....you've been reading my mind.....the pots are lined up waiting....lol

Thanks Hywel....it will be nice not to have to "nag" OH to cut the grass.....I'm sure I'll find other jobs for him to do......(sly grin!)

does the poor man know what you have in mind for him yet? you little Slave driver

Interesting blog with good action photos of OH... ;o)

How many pieces in each section of log edging ?
How far into the ground is the log edging ?
Was the log edging expensive ?
Did you have to paint the log edging ?

so many questions....

answer in less than 800 words...Lol.

Those words "i have had an idea " or " i have been thinking" and " I just need to pop to the shops " usually involve lots more work or great expense....LOL :o))

Thanks to all for comments!!!

TT...in answer to your questions........Dunno how many pieces but each roll is 6ft long; it is about 7 inches high (you can buy varying heights) and cost £6.99 a roll. We were lucky to get it on offer "buy 2 get one free". The logging is tanalised and we didn't paint it so it would match with the logging along the path. It does paint nicely, we painted it for the front garden.
It is knocked about an inch or so into the soil; the soil on one side and the slate on the other supports it quite well.

One of my pet hates is tiny,'postsage stamp' lawns! the slate will look so much better. How long will it be though before you add the odd little alpine? a creeping thyme perhaps, a sempervivum or two.... :o))

I'm not keen on tiny lawns too...this one had been a decent size originally but has been "nibbled at" over the years to make room for more plants. I dare say the odd plant might "just appear" and if they can survive in just the slate they are welcome..lol A few pots may find there way there....there are 2 already......:-o)))))
