Also known as: White hellebore; Sneezewort
Plant folklore; A remedy made from the roots before flowering occurs will treat excessive enthusiasm, being overcritical, a tendency to brood in silence, but hating to be left alone!, melancholy and fear of dying.
Has an acrid taste and burns the mouth.
Was used in medieval Europe on daggers and arrows.
Factual inf: A close relation to the hellebore; all parts are poisonous.
Used as a homeopathic remedy for collapse, where the skin becomes cold and clammy.
Statutory instrument 2844 of 1944 prohibits its supply for amusement resulting from its ability to cause sneezing! Only available on prescription.
