A beautiful day with bright blue skies when we got up yesterday, so we decided to skive off and drive the 20+ miles to Westonbirt Arboretum near Tetbury in the Cotswolds.

It’s now looked after by the Forestry Commission but was originally planted in the Victorian period by a wealthy collector of trees from around the world.

Here are a selection of photos of our invigorating walk. It certainly took the mind away from the humming background of the news and cleared the brain as well as the sinuses with the sharp air!

Giant Redwoods:

Maple grove:

Persian Ironwood and leaves:

I could bore you with lots more photos but I hope you enjoy the feeling of Autumn’s arrival here!

Lovely. I have visited Westonburt, but a long time ago. I love the autumn colours. Round here the trees are being very slow to turn, not really cold enough yet I suppose.

You are welcome, Sheila!

Ff, not very bright round here, either. Just soggy!

Thoroughly recommended, Hywel.

Thanks, Bb.

The maple grove is the most eye-catching, Rose, but I love the really majestic tall trees. Having said that, there were some pretty enormous Japanese maples, too.

Indeed, Kate. Worth a look if you're ever in the area.

Nice autumn colors in the maple grove. Westonbirt arboretum seems like a large area. Thanks for showing us a part of it.
Ange, we have the world's largest-known Douglas-fir, , the world's largest-known red cedar and Canada's largest spruce.... all found on Vancouver Island.
Redwoods do not grow naturally in B.C. There are some Sequoiadendron giganteum around transported here as seedlings over 100 years ago by settlers from California.
So, if you love the really majestic tall trees come to Vancouver Island :-) .....but I am sure that you have plenty in UK too.
