Hi Lujean - summer is definitely NOT the time to visit Oz ... much better to visit during our autumn, winter or spring! Temps. during summer here can vary between 25 degrees C / 77 F and 40 degrees C / 104 F - it all depends on which state you're visiting! Right now up here in north Queensland we're having quite mild summer weather ... so far!!
Visit the website I mentioned in the blog and it will give some indication of the summer weather in various places here.

Merry Xmas Mushy - glad you enjoyed the lyrics of the songs. My favourite is Aussie Jingle Bells - when I was a classroom teacher my little Year 1s would always do this song as one of their pieces at the Xmas concert! It's a perennial favourite.

Hi Pamg - Six White Boomers ... you must know it! Sing along ...
Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun.
Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
On his Australian run.

16 Dec, 2009
Thanks TT - hope you and yours have a fabulous Xmas! Are there some special treats in store for your lovelies?
16 Dec, 2009
Same to you Pamd - been to Buderim ... it's a beautiful part of Oz and I think they would be slightly cooler during summer than my spot. Take a cruise!!! Think of all you could see by the time you get here!

Merry Christmas and a happy new year Bernieh.
16 Dec, 2009
Hi Bernieh...
Conker, Truffle and Crocus the budgie already have their stockings hanging up in a line, so I reckon there will be plenty of treats from Santa this Christmas. :o) x
16 Dec, 2009
Excellent TT - after the year they've experienced together, they will deserve every little treat ... and what about you? Something special coming from Santa I hope!
16 Dec, 2009
Thansk Drc ... hope yours is happy and joyful as well!
16 Dec, 2009
Hi again Bernieh...
To have my three pets happy and healthy for Christmas will be my best present. Have you made many plans ? Very icy here today in the UK... I guess your Christmas will be warm , however you decide to celebrate. :o) xxx
16 Dec, 2009
Yes it will definitely be warm TT. Hubbie and I are going over to Magnetic Island for Christmas Day - Magnetic Island is just off the coast here and a quick ferry ride! We'll be celebrating with members of hubbie's family - brothers, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, mother-in-law - because both our boys and our grandchildren will be elsewhere for Xmas this year! It's the first time we've ever missed Xmas with our boys and with the grandkids since they were born! Might be a little hard to get through ... but the sea breeze and the beach view should help! Hope the weather doesn't get too miserable for you.

Merry Christmas Bernieh, Are we all getting excited yet? Holly hasn't stopped shouting and running around for at least a week now.
16 Dec, 2009
Holly... MERRY CHRISTMAS... Is that loud enough ? LOL.
"Magnetic Island"...that sounds very magical, Bernie........
any special story about how the island got its name please ?
Nice that you will be with hubbie's family. As you say, different in that you won't be with your boys and grandkids, but I'm sure you'll be in touch a lot over the holidays by phone and internet ! :o) xxx
16 Dec, 2009
Thanks Ian ... we've already visited the grandkids and had a bit of an early Xmas with them for a couple of days ... that certainly got us excited! But right now the excitement has worn off a little. Hope you have a great Xmas with your lovely family over there in the cold! We'll be sweating while you shiver.
16 Dec, 2009
TT - yes there is story attached to the naming of the island just off the coast here. It's all thanks to Captain James Cook!! Apparently when he was sailing by back in 1770 he reported a 'magnetic' effect on the ship's compass - he attributed this to the island. Since then of course this theory has been tested ... and not been supported. Still it makes for a great story.
16 Dec, 2009
Maybe Captain James Cook had his own personal magnetism... Lol.
Yes... a wonderful story :o)
16 Dec, 2009
Could be TT ... or maybe he'd had a few too many hot toddies!!
16 Dec, 2009
Lol. :o)

16 Dec, 2009
Hi Bernieh A Very Merry Christmas to you, when we lived over there we spent a lot of the xmas holidays on the beach as there was always loads of barbecues, but xmas day i still did a tipical english xmas dinner, then on the beach we went, funny when there was wishing for cooler weather for xmas but as soon as come back was wishing for the Australian weather.
16 Dec, 2009
Yes you got it Pamg! In his own unique style!
16 Dec, 2009
Now that we're all a lot more sun-smart Carol, most of us don't spend as much time at the beach during summer as we used too ... or if we do go, we make sure it's not between 11.00am and 2.00pm.
Our Xmas Day has for many years always started with a seafood and champagne breakfast ... then we would move onto the traditional roast Xmas dinner ... then we would play cricket in the back yard or games up on my mum-in-law's verandah! For the first time in over 30 years we're going to do something different this year - the family tradition is no more!
16 Dec, 2009
Happy Christmas Bernieh and all the best for 2010.
