Glad you had a nice day and it's always to meet people you normally just correspond with isn't it ?

Your garden must be an absolute picture judging from all the lovely photos you've posted - I am so envious.

Lucky Val and Tet to have spent time looking round your garden there is obviously a lot to see, and its not taken you long to put the wooden ladders to good use they make a great arch.
I bought my first Rhododendron last week its yakushimanum group `Dreamland`hope I get some good flowers on it.

The name is Magnolia 'Susan'. It is very readily available not to fast growing and easily pruned.I have bought young plants in the autumn in Wilkinson's for £2 each grown them on for two years and given them away as presents, they flower when quite young,I have another one growing in the garden 6 years old ex Wilkinson's in bud i will post a pic.

You have so many lovely flowers Brian, I specially like the Primula at the end. Those look like two very rare specimens popping their heads through your Rhododendron! It's great to meet up with other GOY members, I wish there were more living near me. :o)

what beautiful plants and how colourful, thank you for putting your lovely photos on here
and how amazing to be able to grow GoY members!! are they still growing in your garden? do you have to feed and water them much??

on another note ~ what conditions does that magnolia susan like? i have one but its only just surviving.

Yes GOY members did require feeding and watering to stop them flagging.M&S fertilizer seemed to work quite well.lol
Not sure that would work on your Susan though all my soil is neutral regards lime and heavy clay to which i add peat and bone meal when planting, they don't appear to mind sun or shade with me,They are even alright in containers for four or five years provided they are fed and dont dry out.

Lauram
Pleased you like them, the Trillium was bought as Grandiflorum,i think it is right.

12 Apr, 2011

i like the sound of that M&S fertilizer Bjs ~ think i shall get some too!!!!
i shall move my magnolia susan cos it may be having to struggle against a hedge and a very large camellia then i will feed it too
i love trilliums ~ there were lots in the edinburgh botanical gardens ~ i thought i would get some ~ will they be ok in slightly acidic soil?

12 Apr, 2011

Oh yes Brian that M&S fertilizer works amazingly well especially with female plant varieties, I should watch out for that one on the right though, it's not as well behaved as it seems! LOL

12 Apr, 2011

the one on the right in which picture lily?

12 Apr, 2011

That's me Sticky, that Lily is jealous 'cos she didn't get any M&S fertilizer ! lol.

We had a wonderful time at Brian's garden and felt quite privileged to see it in all its glory.
Thank you Brian and Pauline.
