This morning,I decided the Honesty was ready for cutting, to dry off for a vase inside..but the corner where it is growing, is behind a Rose, which is awaiting its second flush of flowers, and was looking very drab..so,I started peeling the outer seed casings, and removing the seeds…how sad is that ?..Yes,I know nature would do it for me..but I wanted to see a bit of brightness,in the corner…It took longer than I thought, and I only went halfway down..It was lunchtime before I knew it..I have decided it is staying where it is now,as I have something to look at..and I will cut some more from another one. …and yes,I did get out..a long four mile walk,in the afternoon..
so pretty cream crackered tonight…:o) What do you think, was it worth it ?

I might even do a bit more..unless I go for another walk..:o)

thats really good ~ so you peeled off the green layer and the silver is underneath?

25 Jul, 2011

Yes,Sticki..along with approx seven or eight seeds to each seed case..You have to take both side of the seed case off..a long job,but I quite enjoyed it...easily pleased, that's me .Lol.

i can understand that, sort of thing i would be quite happy doing while everything else stays not done!!! like the hoovering, ironing, weeding etc etc.

i didnt realise you had to take them off ~ how long till they fall off on their own?

I'm disappointed with you, Sandra. Fancy only doing half the job! You could have continued and got OH to bring you refreshment ... seriously though, it looks lovely and bright now! ... : o )))

you don't have to take them off,Sticki..I have some in the front border, which have already cast off the seed cases..but as I was going to cut these ones, originally for indoor display..I like them to look in good condition,as the wind soon rips them, and they look a mess...

27 Jul, 2011

I've done that to ones that I've been giving away to people or putting in bunches in the house...but I've never even thought to do it while they're still alive in the garden! They're lovely, and I don't even have any in the garden this year! Booo! Any chance of me dropping over and finishing that one off for you? Hmmm? I don't get out much either...they hide the key don't ya know?! ;0)

28 Jul, 2011

yes please,Libet.you would be very welcome..Glad the neighbours couldn't see me...in the corner, sitting on a stool, with a big bucket ! Lol...to catch the seeds, just in case you were wondering ??...ha ha.

Did the same thing last year and, yes, it did take ages. I agree with you tho'; it is quite therapeutic. Don't think mine are quite ready yet this year but going on holiday soon so may find that nature has done job for me on return. Certainly won't be my teenage son who is looking after cats and house. Will be lucky if plants get watered. Dead-heading? I don't think so. Sitting with a basket/bucket/anything to catch seed whilst delicately peeling back seed-casings? Not a snowballs chance in Hell!

Lol,Tuesdaybear...but then again, Iwouldn't have done anything like that,as a teenager, either! .I was only interested in the lawn..to sunbathe on :o)..He will do lots of mundane things, when he gets to my age...but,he sounds a good lad,for looking after the cats and house for you..:o))
