5 May, 2010

5 May, 2010

WOW aren't you all clever clogs ( grin )
Thank you so much everyone.

#6 ? I'm hoping you mean #5 and wooohooo if it is a hydrangea I LOVE them.

Oxalis deppei.... Is it a weed or is it from one of my seeds ?

Ruby lights .... Does it have another name please as I couldn't find anything in google for it.

Jasmine... I do hope so as I have the plant in #3 growing in all different places. I pulled it all up last year thinking it was a weed ( shakes head )

5 May, 2010

RE no 1. The ruby lights looks like the Helichrysum pic, that Pansypotter showed us on her garden photo's earlier in the week, but not certain...

5 May, 2010

Thank you Bloomer i'll take a look :O)

5 May, 2010

5 May, 2010

#1 is confirmed as Helichrysum - Ruby Cluster ( curry plant ) :O)

#4 is confirmed as Oxalis deppei

I also found a picture from last year of the Ruby Cluster when it was in flower.
The flowers look like dried flowers and I remember the curry like smell.

Thank you.

Thank you Simbad. I don't mind it by the bond but it is working it's way into every available spot including in between the paving slabs LOL

5 May, 2010

Just need 3 and 5 confirmed now wooohooo :O)

5 May, 2010

5 looks more like ground elder [sorry its a horrendous thug if it is.] not a hydrangea though
3 looks like a vetch which is a wild flower . I have some in the garden but weed lots out.

5 May, 2010

Photo 6. is a Hydrangea probably Macrophylla which is the big mop headed one in pink and blue which is everywhere because it is just such a good plant to have in the garden. . 5. Is the Oxalis Deppii. It is not a weed. 4. Is a vetch, it is a wild flower. 3. If you mean the plant next to the wall I am sure it is a wild bramble. 2. Is the carex pendula and 1. is a helichrysum sanguinium. I thought I was seeing things there for a minute. There are 6 photos but only 5 numbers. lol

5 May, 2010

No you can perhaps relax, 5 deffo not ground elder, phew for you! Could it be a very young other kind of elder, do you have a tree nearby?
3 is vetch, I let that run wild in a previous garden cos I found it pretty but lived to regret the decision.
The helichrysum is very pretty isn't it, love that
Must say though that the carex looks similar to one we have here which spreads, is a pain to pull up, and never does anything interesting. I'd get rid of it personally, though if you do like it I apologise for my bluntness, and at least it's useful cover?

Oxalis also spreads widely, though it's an attractive plant.

5 May, 2010

Ooh you are naughty you have removed the bramble.

5 May, 2010

well no-one told me the goal posts were going to move, lol

5 May, 2010

I could be forgiven for having a senior moment, I have reached that age but come on Blooming lovely own up lol.

5 May, 2010

Two pictures were of the same grass I wanted identifying just in different places and in the end it was confusing me never mind everyone else LOL.
Sorry for the confusion everyone.

Yes there is a bramble I would like identified but that'll be in round two ( grin )

6 May, 2010

#5 whatever it is is growing from tubers I bought but stupid me forgot to save the packet and is the only one left to identify (in this round ).

Thank you so much everyone you are all fabulous.

Round 2 coming shortly LOL

6 May, 2010

Weeding the carex will be coming up in some places and moved so I can have my border back LOL

6 May, 2010

in that case is 5 one of the dahlia's, the leaf is sort of right. but not convinced.
you need to get a folder and keep all your labels etc. many of us have boxes of them [deceased ones too] :o)

6 May, 2010

Saeburngirl I did buy some Dahlia tubers so it could be.I do hope so because I love Dahlias.
Yep I now know to save all packets and lables LOL

6 May, 2010

You are forgiven lol. Could you either get another photo of "5" or describe it for us a) what colour are the stems b) Are the stems woody or fleshy c) When did you plant your tubers d) Do you live in the South East, North West or where in the country or what has your weather been like since you planted your tubers. With this information a joint effort might help you and us find out what this plant is.

6 May, 2010

i have doubts but 5 could be a dahlia emerging from its tuber, you can never tell the colour buy just looking at its leaves though

6 May, 2010

Thank you kindly LOL
Ok here goes
.
.
a- Red
b- Fleshy
c- About 8 weeks ago
d- South East at the bottom-middle
e- Weather was cold for the first 2 weeks fabulous for the next 5 weeks and cold wet and windy for the last week.

Will go out in a mo and take some more pics :O)

I cannot understand why if this is a dahlia it is growing so well in the open. Grown from tubers the usual practise is to grow indoors until danger of frosts have passed. It seems to be remarkably mature for a dahlia at this time. It looks very healthy. You have got us puzzled with this one.

6 May, 2010

You can count on me to puzzle everyone LOL

6 May, 2010

OK added some new photos of #5 LOL

6 May, 2010

why dont you dig it up to see if it has a rhizome or tuber?

6 May, 2010

if it does have one, it might be a dahlia

6 May, 2010

What is a rhizome ?
If I dig it up it won't kill it will it ?

6 May, 2010

I would not bother to dig it up it will show what it is eventually.

6 May, 2010

Too late LOL
Photo added in the original post :O)

6 May, 2010

Those are dahlia tubers, your last photograph. There is a huge difference between that growth and what you showed on Picture 5. If you expect frost before the end of May then cover them up.

6 May, 2010

tubers def dahlia. did you get any of the llandaff series? they have dark stems.

will watch progress with interest. hope you potted it back straight away.

tubers are swollen food reserves. a rhizome is a fleshy swollen stem, like on bearded iris or worm like 'runners' underground like in bind weed.

6 May, 2010

Yay glad you all got the last one ;O)
Thank you for the tip Scotsgran, they are in a pot so if frost is predicted i'll pop them in the kitchen.
Seaburngirl I have no idea what variety they are. I bought them from poundland and I think it just said Dahlia on the packet.
Yep re potted straight away LOL

Thank you everyone.
I guess i'll have to change my AV soon now LOL

7 May, 2010

digging it up carefully wont do any harm to it i think

9 May, 2010

yup those are dahlia tubers all right!

9 May, 2010

Thank you Arun.

9 May, 2010

9 May, 2010
