5 SRGC Early Bulb Day

We have just returned from Dunblane where we attended the Scottish Rock Garden Club’s first meeting of the year. The event features a display of bulbs and plants brought in by members, plant sales to die for, other sales items and some lectures based on bulb growing. There were over 200 of us in the hall all busy catching up on gossip from over the winter.
Still one hour to go before the event begins!
There were 150 chairs on the floor ( I helped to put them out) the balcony holds at least 50 and there were people standing.
The flower show was one the best ever.
Narcissus
Primula
Crocus
And don’t forget the snowdrops!
All these bulbs and plants would have been grown by members in unheated greenhouses or frames.
Our keynote speaker was Rod Leeds who is reponsible for writing many excellent books on bulb growing. I had never met or heard Rod before but found him to be an excellent speaker. He lives down in south east Englend and gives many talks to various clubs and societies. If you hear that he is to give a talk in your area then I can strongly recommend going along.
