Sir Bobby Robson

When Sir Bobby Robson died thousands of floral tributes were laid outside the Newcastle football ground. Then, rather than just dumping them, a local nursery collected the flowers up and composted them. The resulting compost was bagged up and was sold today at £10 per bag, all the proceeds going to a cancer charity. I thought that this was an excellent method of dealing with all those flowers.

What a good idea! I'm sure Sir Bobby would have been very approving!

He would have been "well chuffed" cos the proceeds are going to his own cancer charity...

A much better idea than just clearing them away! :-)

~ Great idea ~Although I think he will be turning in his grave that Mike Ashley has renamed St James Park Stadium ~ he has that knack of infuriating the fans that only a true idiot and non Geordie possesses!

I'd like to think that this became a common practice. Think what could have been done with all of Princess Di's flowers.

Of the flowers collected at St James Park, 72 bags of compost weighing 25kg were produced and have been on sale at £10 per bag at a Garden Centre in Monkseaton. At 1.30pm today only 16 bags were left. ALL the proceeds of the sale will go to Sir Bobby Robson cancer charity. Alan Shearer, on behalf of the trustees, will be presented with the cheque.

Great idea.

I wonder if Princess Di's flowers were composted by the council, I hope so. But this is a great idea to give proceeds to a charity close to the person's heart.

When I said great idea I meant in this instance as they had the flowers. I do hope this nightmare for those that have to clear it up doesnt become the norm?
