Strange Plants

These two plants I saw at the Savill Gardens and there was no label that I could see for either of them. Just wondered if anyone recognised them or had any idea. The second one looks like some kind of lily I think, but both strange to me.

Could it be some kind of plantain?

Thanks for trying. Such large plants too. The first one I couldnt make out if it was seed cases after flowering, or buds. There was a lot of it, and some had been cut down, which makes me think it was going over. It does look a bit like a plantain I suppose Karen. They probably both have very long unpronouncable names !!

The second one I think is the one they call the 'mouse-tail' arisaema, I used to have it but it spreads like mad, so it had to go!

Thanks Jaykaty, I expect you are right.

Certainly quite a talking point TT.

the first looks like Lysichiton americanus or skunk cabbage seed head from after they flowered, the second is an arisaema i don't know which sort as i don't grow them but Meanie would know..

Surrylad is correct with the first and the second is probablt Arisaema jacquemontii. We grow a lot of arisaema and encourage them to spread, Jaykaty.

Sorry I can't name them but they look interesting :o)

The first is definitely lysichiton. I know they grow both A. americanus (with yellow flowers) and A. camtschatensis (with white flowers) plus the hybrid of the two (with cream flowers)
