Shoo fly plant.

Last year on a visit to Rosemoor garden in Devon, I saw this strange plant I had never seen before, growing in a veggie patch. The gardener was there and told me it was a shoo fly. They pop up everywhere he said, and we leave them alone as they are pretty when in flower. With his permission I took a seed pod, and this year have grown a few. This is a couple of pics for you to see.

I just read up about this plant and it seems the seed is sometimes found in packs of bird seed! It can pop up in the garden from the feeders ... a very pretty flower.

We grew it last year, and we were told it would overtake the garden, unfortunately it didn't and so we do not have it this year!! I love it, such a pretty flower, O H also lost the seeds he had saved!

That would be interesting Stera, have to watch it closely !
Bjs, Shirley and Sandra, thanks, yes I looked it up too Shirley and apparently it can be in bird seed. It's a nice sturdy plant, and easy to grow, so will save some seed for next year I think.

Did you Dotty, I'm sure there will be plenty of seed, I will send you some.

Or Dotty could sprinkle a bag of bird seed around the borders and see what pops up! :o))

Thanks HB, it seems a large plant for an annual, nice shape too.
Thanks Balcony, it's a pretty flower, doesn't last long, but plenty on there.
Sb. I can't stop thinking about the song, I think Burl Ives used to sing about the shoo fly, that dates me. And shoo fly pie. ! I'm fine again now thank you after an op.
Thanks Thrupenny.

Very pretty flower in a nicely shaped plant. I really like the leaves too.
I will look out for them at Rosemoor as it isn't too far away.

Yes they do make a nice shape Wildrose, and the gardener at Rosemoor told me they just pop everywhere, but they usually leave some as they are so attractive.

It is a pretty flower. Wonder if it really does deter flies?
