An autumnal day out

About two weeks ago, sick and tired of the perpetual rain, I started looking at the weather forecast on my phone. Imagine my delight when I saw the outlook for last Wednesday, which was giving blue skies and a funny little yellow object for the whole day and light northerly winds.
This is what I had been waiting for and booked my self for a trip to Rosemoor.
imagine my horror when Sunday came along and there was a pm briefing about a lockdown, but thankfully it didn’t come into effect until the Thursday, but have since learned that the public gardens are staying open.
Wednesday arrived and the weather forecast was true, what a beautiful day, blue skies, sunshine and no wind.
I arrived at rosemoor at my pre-booked time of 10am and of I went. I was hoping to get all the acers in their autumn colours, but like my own in my garden the storms of the previous weeks had more or less blew all the leaves of.
Not really a problem because the rest of what was on view was truly mind blowing.
The miscanthus grasses were stunning along with other varieties of grass. The trees that hadn’t lost their leaves were vibrant in the autumn sunlight and some of the trees looked more interesting without any leaves. The evergreen conifers and cypress trees plus the colours of the sedum and shrubs just made it all look stunning.
I think i was there for about five hours, took over 220 photo’s but even though me feet were killing me by the end i had a fantastic day. It was quite quiet when i arrived but it was very busy when i left. People of all ages were there and what was really nice was that they all seemed to be really enjoying themselves. bit different to the local supermarket where they seem to be dragging there lower jaw behind them in hunt for the elusive toilet roll pack :) :).
anyway here are some of the photo’s that i took of the day. Don’t worry there isn’t 220

Glad you had a good day Davey, I have never been to Rosemoor, but having seen those pictures means I will put it on my places to go list, I do like the stream picture and the view over the pond with all the trees reflections, you have taken some great pictures there.

Gorgeous photos Davey. Thank you for sharing - very cheer-upping. When the sun is at a low angle like that it seems to make everything look magical. Glad you had a great day. I enjoyed the flowerpot men and Alice too

Wednesday was a glorious day in Yorkshire too , though we went motorbiking instead. I think I'd rather gone round Rosemoor. it is a beautiful place. must get up to Harlow Carr again soon.

This is a fantastic blog. Davey! I very much liked seeing all your pictures of your day out at Rosemoor gardens! Though I didn't expect to see over 200 photos I would certainly have liked to have seen more! Having told us the number of photos you took there must be material sufficient for another couple of blogs!
I loved that picture of the flowerpot men! A real good talking point for anybody who saw them! I recognized Alice even at the distance you captured her!
The trees & other plants were great & that tree with the bight orange/yellow leaves is fantastic!
Very well done! :)

Thanks so much for the comments everybody, it really is a wonderful place to visit and if you do get a chance, do go there. I must admit being mid to late autumn, wasn't really sure as to what I would see, but as said earlier there was so much interest and beauty without the flowers. What I do like is that all plants and trees are well named with bold identification plaques, and now tend to take the photo of the subject, then the id plaque, The stunning orange tree is a Liriodendron Tulipifera, or tulip tree

Davey, thanks for posting! Lovely blog, enjoyed the witty bits too!
Your pics are beautiful as always. The autumnal colours have been captured so well! From the tall trees, to the tall golden coloured grasses and the sedum..

"What I do like is that all plants and trees are well named with bold identification plaques, and now tend to take the photo of the subject, then the id plaque,"
I did that at the Cambridge Botanical gardens that I visited on a couple of occasions some years ago! I also did exactly the same as you did, take a photo of the plant & then, (at a much lower resolution), the ID plaque! (Back then I didn't have nearly as much storage as I have these days!)

Once again, Kate, Bathgate thanks so much for your lovely comments, yep Balcony it is so much easier taking a quick photo of the name plaque, rather than saying, pink flower, purple tree and to be quite honest once you start looking at the plaque and putting an Id to it you are learning a bit of recognition, which is nice, I am very lucky with my camera as I have two massive memory cards in it, which I need as I always shoot in Raw format which always makes big files.

Thanks for sharing your visit to Rosemoor as it has brought back lovely memories of previous visits. The photo with the Flowerpot Men reminds me of our disappointment on seeing the paths around the veg. areas had been tarmacked and weren't the old allotment style paths.
That looks like a sculpture of Alice in Wonderland from a few years ago. Beautiful ... thanks for sharing some of your 220 photos!
