Hydrangeas

I’ve always liked Hydrangeas. In my family home we had large shrubs and as a child the fact that the colour could be “changed” was always a source of wonder to me.
We have some in pots now. Last year I was given a white one from an expensive florist. It’s blooming again this year.
The pink one comes from Lidl’s and cost £6.99. I think it is really pretty. Do you agree? Bet it would have cost twice as much from the above florist!
Lidls and I guess Aldis often have really good plants but you have to buy them close to the first day of their appearance as the plants don’t seem to get watered. I read posts where people discussed this and someone said he’d been told by a Manager that they were dissuaded from watering the outside plants for Health & Safety reasons. If it’s true I think that’s a shame!

Very nice.....I particularly like the white one. A bit unusual....don't see many white ones in this area!

Jen: You won't regret having Hydrangeas in the garden as they are such showy, lush bloom. They can also be dried easily to use in the Winter. I believe Trebah Gardens in Cornwall have a display around Christmas time.
Paul: I should have kept the card that came with the white one! As you can tell, I'm not the gardener; just a planner. The odd thing though is that I am the one who finds the unusual specimen in a garden centre( the one that baffles my gardener friends.)
:O)
The white is beautiful though.

Can you think why watering might contravene Health and Safety? They are both lovely but I do like the white as its so unusual.

Steragram: I think they were referring to the stands outside the supermarkets. (puddles, drips etc) Not sure if they are worried about their staff or customers.
Um...... the image of the white one has disappeared on my PC. Is it on yours?

We had 5 in our last garden. 1 which I had brought from my house before that. It was called a Japanese Lady hydrangea. It had pink with a white edge petals. Sadly with this move I had to leave all my plants behind. We had too much machinery with moving the business.

Googled Japanese Lady : very pretty, Jen.
Of course started reading about them then. Seems the Japanese call Hydrangeas Ajisai in Japanese and they remind people of the June rainy season in Japan. The flowers deepen in colour as rain water falls on them.

They are very pretty. I didn't know they could grow in a pot.

How very interesting. I knew I think that the english name was to do with the amount water they needed.
Hywel, my garden 3x ago :-) only had a patio so filled it up with pots. Got the Japanese Lady as it said would stay fairly small so was ideal for that garden. Had it about 15yrs and never got very big but was really pretty.

We're running out of space in the garden so ours are in pots, Hywel. I like container gardening as the pots can be moved around
Jen, I reckon our wet June would deepen the colour of any flower.
Everything seems to have GROWN so much this year.

I like both your Hydrangeas . . . think the pink one might be a 'lacecap'?

Sheila : I thought it was really cheap at Lidl's and it's doing well. (We still have the poinsettias we bought at Christmas from there. They are splendid plants. I like them though an Indian friend said they are considered weeds in India!)

Eirlys, they are lovely. Hydrangeas are one of my hubby's favourites. When we moved here we noticed that there were none in this garden so its one of the things we plan to get. Think health and safety goes mad at times.
