We have removed the lilies (Stargaze) from the greenhouse and placed them under our window. They are very long-stemmed and the flowers are prolific. I have a vase full of some we picked and the perfume isn’t overpowering, just “nice”!

I particularly like Hydrangeas and we have several blooming at the moment. They include:

Glam Rock and Lace Cap , which we bought un-named from a Lidl store. They often have lovely plants but they need to be bought on the day they are displayed as they do not water the plants. Shame!

Then, of course, there are the Gazanias. I love these!

and Petunias are always colourful. These include; Cascadia Rim Magenta; Mystery Cha Ching; Designer Red Star; Designer Buzz Purple; Sunflower Ray.
plus Calibrachoa Chameleon Mix.

Some of thes ewould look good as hair colours, NAT!

Great selection of parti-coloured ones there - all very jazzy! Your lilies are lovely too.

Yes I meant to type StargazeR., Thrupeenybit, The scent is delicate not at all cloying. We bought a lily from one of the superstores and had to remove it from the sitting-room as the scent made us feel ill. I still love lilies but remove the stamens to protect Sage, our rescue cat.

Steragram: Unusual combination of colours on some, I agree.

DDaisy: Snap!

Your Lilies are just wonderful. Bet they smell terrific too.

Now have another darker-coloured lily. Not as prolific but beautiful.

I love Gazanias, but the ones I bought this year don't appear to be opening properly.

I have 1 Gazania that I planted in a pot with something else years ago. All the other Gazanias died, but this one keeps coming back year after year and I haven't the heart to remove it now even though I don't really want it there now.

They need full sun and ours certainly get it where they are.
Top marks for loyalty for your surviving Gazania, Lisam.

Wow ! Just wow :) x

In what way are the stamens harmful to your cat, Eirlys? I know that if they touch our clothes they leave a stain that's impossible to remove!

You can get the pollen off with sellotape if you do it before its got smudged.

Thanks for your advice, Sue . . . you seem incredibly practical :)

Sheila if the cat gets that pollen on its fur and then cleans itself it is then ingesting it, very dangerous to the cat, it can cause severe problems to its major organs, usually fatal within a very short time as they all collapse, I found that out the hard way last summer.....

Gracious Lincs - that's dreadful. There should be a warning on the plant label perhaps?

2 Aug, 2017

Sheila: I think you'll find most plants that are dangerous are now labelled as such. We had a Siamese that used to eat any daffodils we had in the house. Panic at first but she lived until she was eighteen. Still wouldn't take any chances.

Lincslass: That's a sad story.

Sue: Sellotape works a treat.

Wow Lincs, thankyou for the warning! I haven't got any lilies this year so must try to remember in future. I'm glad the sellotape trick is useful - i can't remember now who told me about it
