Lunenburg

I treated myself to a day out in Lunenburg today. Beautiful warm sunshine, blue ocean and a lot of tourists about. You might want to see where I went.
First, a Google map of the main part of the town. Lunenburg is re-developing a working waterfront, and all the wharves previously used for shipbuilding and fishing are coming back into use. Next week the Tall Ships arrive!
The main road is the #3, but to get this view of the waterfront, you need to approach by way of Mason’s Beach Road, to the south.
So many people miss this wonderful vista from the foot of the golf course on Tannery Road.
Here are a few zoom shots, panning left to right:
My main reason for visiting Lunenburg today was the Annual Crafts Fair. Here are my purchases:
We need that clotted cream, Toto!
A greeting card made from a watercolour by a friend and neighbour, Leslie Sneidal. The view is of the lobster wharf and fish stores in Little Harbour, Cherry Hill, the next village to ours.
After the fair, I headed into town on foot, and passed this delightful cottage garden as I turned down the waterfront footpath to the firehall.
Lunch was catered by the local volunteer fire department – a scallop fry. I took mine to enjoy in the park and the fresh air.
A view back to the golf course from the park:
A zoom shot as the SS Eastern Star leaves the harbour, taking tourists on a trip around the bay:
More views from the park and the waterfront footpath:
An old boat shed along the waterfront path:
And back past the cottage garden to the car.
Last of all, the view from the ferry crossing the mouth of the LaHave River on the way home.
What a perfect day! Now we’re off to a chowder supper at our own volunteer firehall!
