Summer weekend

Forgive me if there’s not a lot of ‘garden’ content, but this weekend was too nice not to share.
Summer has finally arrived, and yesterday was beach weather. Carter’s beach is a series of stretches of pale yellow sand. Usually we have the place to ourselves , except for the odd seal in winter. We were surprised to see how many people were there – we arrived for a walk at 10:30 am. I bet this is nothing compared to the crowds on the beaches in Europe …
This is the first cove:
Beyond that and over the stream is the next beach.
The tide was out.
After our walk (next time we’ll bring a swim suit and a towel each…) we headed for an exhibition in Liverpool, NS, entitled Art Hits the Wall. A couple of our friends are rug hookers, and organize this event every other year. Stunning work. Here’s one piece, and details of it:
And here’s another that I really liked – 2 hens:
And a few more:
It was an incredible exhibit – about 60 pieces in all, such talent.
Today was the Parade of Sail in Halifax Harbour, part of the Tall Ships Challenge 2009. I couldn’t get up there myself as it’s a work day, but the harbour cams provided some great screen shots:
What a perfect day – enough breeze to show some sail but not enough to make it dangerous in a harbour. They’re doing a tour of Nova Scotia ow, and then they’ll be off to Belfast on the last leg of the Challenge. Perhaps I can sneak on board as the ship’s cat…
’Til next time,
elke

So glad you all enjoyed this. I could post dozens more photos of the fabric art, just say!
The Halifax paper had great photos of the Tall Ships today. Far better photos than the screen shots I took off the web cams: http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/1133413.html
And I found a photo of mine with a couple more people on that beach!! We are SOOOO spoiled here. Showers here today, so I'm glad we took advantage of a fine weekend. I'm working anyway, but keep taking strolls around the garden in between showers. Hope it's better where you are.
