Barby this Saturday - preparations are in hand!

I decided our neighbours needed spoiling after the tough time they’ve had losing their lovely Dad recently … a good friend of ours who was a well – loved man in the village & whose 2 daughters live next door & further over to me … so we are doing a barby for them … & 12 more!
What started out as 6 has sort of snowballed as always but they all know one another & get on well!!
So … hubby home early today to mow the lawn & generally tidy up …
… that’s the extent of his efforts … no, I’m joking … he chopped wood ( we always light the fire late evening for when everyone gets the chills & heads indoors) … put his bike out & propped it against the shed … swept the patio … admired his bike … fixed the fence … cleaned his bike … cut the eucalyptus back … admired his now clean & shiny bike … & … put the bl**dy thing away!
While all this hard graft was going on I did the shopping after work … fed my mum … dropped my daughter off … came home … cooked a stir fry … washed up … brought washing in … hung washing out … put shopping away … changed bedding for guests … fed cats … & still found time to plant up a few flowers that somehow found their way into my possession from the GC on the way home!
A pretty orange Calibrachoa for my china wall pot…
Plus some bright Verbenas for an empty blue pot & some Bacopa which I was really pleased to find in purple as I already have them in white & they trail so wonderfully…
Then I couldn’t resist this as I didn’t get around to sowing Morning Glory seeds this year … thought I’d go for the purply one instead as the blue ones didn’t look so healthy …
At the moment it’s still in it’s pot by the old witch doctor’s chair as I haven’t got a tall enough pot for it … might have to visit the GC again!!
Meanwhile … the honeysuckle’s out …
Someone’s sat in the Mimulus …
Naming no names …?
I have to show off my Clematis too …
I’m always pleasantly surprised when this makes an appearance every year as I neglect it terribly!
And the one & only deliphinium has come out … despite falling flat on it’s face this week in the wind.
Do you remember the little Greek urn on the wall by the front door? It had a yellow one of these last year & was my avatar before I fell in love with MGs … this year I have a purple one … even tho’ the camera says it’s blue!
Michael’s patch’s campanula is blooming …
And the pot hostas are slug – free!
That’s it for now … I’ve got loads to do for the barby … the decking’s still distressed …
Phoebe’s not being very lady – like …
And Morrissey’s just not bothered!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend … I’ll save you a sausage! ;o))

Well, if you're inviting everyone over, Fluff.........lol! Lovely blog, such a kind and generous thought too, hope it's a great success, and I love your picts, brilliant as always. As to that bike, you know you have a real problem when you are left in the shed, and the bikes got your side of the bed! LOL! :~))x

Your garden is so full of flowers Fluff, it looks so inviting. Hope the weather stays fine for the barbie, and so that all your visitors can admire all the hard work you have put into getting the garden ready for them.
Love your chair as well.

Thank you all ... but I have to answer you separately cos you say such nice things!
Thanks 6d ... The cats always star!!
I have no idea what the clematis is ... I inherited it from the last tenants of my house. The closest I can get is Will Goodwin' & I have searched & searched for the right match. This has the same colour, same number of petals & the same colour stamen as mine so I guess it's close enough.
Hello Grandmage ... thank you ...just read your profile ... love the phrase 'love to hate the garden'! It is like that some days!! I come home late from work & say the same thing!! I think we may be lucky with the weather ... have a gazebo waiting in the wings if not! ;o))
Hi Linda ... thanks ... the kitters are getting very bored with me putting a camera in their face these days! If I get too close they just walk away!
Flori! You're are all very welcome ... there's enough nosh to feed an army of hungry gardeners! Funny you should say that about the bike ... one of them lives in the spare room as it's only insured if in the house & I always joke if we row too much I'll find it on my side of the bed one day!! He can try it lol!!
Cheers ladybug ... for the positive vibes for a good weekend! I collect pots for a pastime ... but then you have to keep them all watered!
Love your pretty cat on your avatar Elsiemay ... is he one of yours? He's gorgeous! Thank you for your comments ... my cats think they're cute too!
Dylandog ... Thanks ...Phoebe is a good name for a cat eh? The chair is more comfy than it looks! If a bit creaky!!
Hi Carole ... thank you ... nice to hear from you. Hope you are ok. :o)
Hi Silverbelle! Do you know ... most of our friends aren't gardeners & don't say a word about the garden! I forgive them cos they are lovely in other ways but I sometimes wish they'd notice!! Maybe I should invite Alan Titchmarsh over for a burger!!
18 Jun, 2010
Get yourself off to bed lass, you have a big day tomorrow.....:o) Hope the weather stays kind to you.
18 Jun, 2010
Ok Dylandog thank you! ... I'll do as I'm told! xx

Have a lovely evening - perhaps put the bike on the barby (don't tell him I said that). Perhaps get some candles for after dark. Ps you can not beat spam kebabs - a family favourite here and so easy to do.

Hope you had a super bbq! The cats made me smile - my Phoebe would have made herself invisible from a big crowd but woulfd have come back for titbits from the barbie later.
lovely colours in your garden - My taste as well

Thanks Ian & Kfunsters ... barby went brilliantly! Yes there was lots of candles but not a spam kebab in sight! Do you really like them KF? I'll give them a try next time tho' ... does it stay on the skewer ok?
The bike was safely stowed away in the shed ... I think hubby got the hint he'd spent far too much time on it when there was work to be done!!
Elsie & Speedy ... the weather was pretty good thanks... bit chilly in later evening but hey if it's not wet & windy you can't complain! No burnt bits Speedy!
Pretty name for a kitty Elsie.
Hi Rachelsmum ... Phoebe hid in our bedroom & stayed there all night asleep on top of me! She know something's going to happen when I start taking stuff outside & changing spare beds! As soon as the first guests arrived she was up the stairs & under our bed. The original scaredy cat!
Glad you like the colours! :o)

Hope you enjoy your Bar b q your plants are lovely so delicate your trailing ones lovely so too is the new Morning Glory beautiful well done with keeping the slugs away from your hostas, Phoebe and Morrissey well I can't stop laughing thats the best about being an animal you can do what you want when you want. What is the name of your Clematis, as my first ever clematis looks just like this lilac and I never have had or found the name to it.
