The day after I first joined Goy I asked the question would my Clematis Montana flower again as it had finished (22nd June) now & it seemed a short flowering time…several people said it might & guess what…it has!!!!
Whooohoo!!! And….it has the most amazing fragrance…didn’t expect that either!!

Yes, my montanas have had a few more blooms, too!
As for the C. cirrhosas - well, 'Freckles' and 'Lansdown Gem' just keep on and on producing flowers! :-))

I've always liked to see Clematis but have never grown them. Not much room for them on my balcony!

Got room for another pot? Then you could train it over the door/window? Mine's quite happy in a pot.

They would have to put up with permanent shade as the sun would never reach them, the balcony is too deep & the angle of the sun is usually too high. A climber than can support permanent shade & still produce plenty of flowers & had a lovely scent into the bargain would be ideal!
A friend has taken some cutting of Jasmine which she is rooting for us after my wife said she liked their perfume. She told her about the one we had on our balcony in Spain & how she loved its perfume.

There's a climbing hydrangea vine which has dark green leaves & creamy flowers with a good scent. Don't know how easy it is to grow but it's hardy & has twisty stems for winter interest.

Thanks, Fluff, but it's far too big a plant to grow on a tiny balcony like mine! Don't forget I have to grow everything in pots as well! I could always grow Variegated Ivy, I have a couple growing in pots. One is in a hanging basket & another is sharing a pot with a Cypress. It hasn't made much growth this year though.
