There's no stopping those glads...

Back in the early summer I bought a bag of 40 mixed gladioli from Wilkinsons for £3. I put them in wherever I could see a space & I suppose half of them have come up.
Many have really shredded leaves which I forgot to take a pic of but they look like something has gone thru’ them lengthwise with sharp teeth!
These ones haven’t formed a flower as they’ve probably spent all their energy staying alive after that onslaught but some have grown big & strong & have turned out to wonderful colours.
I was just surprised at how quickly they come out …in the space of 24 hours…with sun yesterday & all that rain today these pics show the progress!!
These pink & white ones are my favourites tho’ the orange are lovely too…
And today they got rained on!
I also found extremely healthy – looking nasturtiums at one end of the garden while the caterpillar – fest was still going on at the other!!
Never mind …my toms are coming on a treat…even if you can only just see them…I will clean the glass one day!!…
Then….I found this slimy pariah …feasting on those pretty red million bells that used to grace the basket on the bike…look what he’s done to them!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrr!

Sorry to hear your gladioli didn't all do very well. The ones that did flower are great though.
I found Wilkinsons bulbs are not very good. The ones I've bought from there have always been poor.

Some really nice Gladioli you've got there, Fluff! I love them & have several white ones that come up every year on the balcony. I don't lift them & they survive alright without any protection.
A couple are planted in the same tub as my Fred Loads rose but this year they had their leaves shredded just as you describe happened to some of yours. I don't know what the culprit is though. Like you I've had some that were unaffected. I've had 3 flower spike this year but other years there have been several more I think.
In spite of the number of photos I take I can't be really sure that I've not photographed the same one several times over in the couple of weeks they last!
