Church Flower Festival

Well I couldn’t coax my old mum into getting out & about to see the lovely flowers the lady villagers had arranged so well in our old church…so thought I would take loads of pics & take my laptop down to her! If Mohammed won’t go the mountain….. type of thing!
She’ll be gob-smacked at seeing them on the screen & maybe she’ll muster the energy to venture out for something else next time.
Sharing them with you guys first to get your opinion!
Please excuse my photography skills…the light was really weird as is often the case in churches I suppose…& if some appear a little dark it’s because with the flash they just looked stark.
Autumn colours everywhere & of course the Harvest Festival displays too…
The aisle up to the altar, the pulpit & lectern & the flowers at it’s base…
This old chap died in1914…must have been someone relevant to the village but that’s all I remember reading so will have to go back & check!…plus the line of flowers along the choir stalls & a close up of my favourite blues!
And finally some stained glass windows & shots of the church as I was leaving, the old funeral bier made by my forebears & a parting shot of the flowers as I came out when the sun was shining in on them…it was jolly chilly in there…good to come out into the sunshine!!

Lovely blog Fluff I would jump at the chance to go out to see these, the ladies of the church s and a few men do wonderful flower arranging, even though I am not a church goer my self, but have seen their works in variety of churches.

I remember the Harvest Festival from when I was at school and we all had to take things in.
Some beautiful flower arrangements Fluff and a gorgeous church.. We don't get to see things like this in the City and it is wonderful to know that our great English traditions and festivals are still celebrated. Thanks for letting me take a peek. :-)))

No Lily...I took them yesterday afternoon! Altho' we did get up at 6am this morning to make the day last longer.
I'm going to ask my mum again at 3 today Denise to see if she'll go...she has no confidence in walking on uneven surfaces & you know what these old church paths are like!
Morgana ...I'm not a church goer either now but I've always loved the architecture & grave yards & flowers etc tho' 'm not too keen on the belfry...one of my weird phobias!
You're very welcome to the peek Sue! The church is about the only thing left in the village from the old days...shop,garage & school are all gone.
Thank you everyone for your comments.

Super pix. Fluff - well done. I haven't got the patience to arrange flowers myself but respect those who can.

Thanks MG...no me neither...there's a real art to it.

Actually I had a fall on a flag outside Goudhurst churchdoor Fluff when we visited it. The village has a history of smuggling (The Hawkhurst gang) gave my face a nasty bang.

Sorry Denise...had a vision of you tripping over a Union Jack then...!! It's ok I've caught up now!!

Couldnt get it have now, how easily the written word can be misinterpretted Fluff I have always called flagstones flags but a flag is flown?
13 Sep, 2009
Yes...but the silly thing is I call them flags too!!
It was just a senior moment on my part!

Hi Fluff, I enjoyed the look around your church and I didn't shrivel up and die either..... The tablets must be working. :~)))))

A really lovely blog, Fluff! :) I really enjoyed the illustrated "walk" around the church. The flower displays are really magnificent!

Me neither Ian...would that be the stone tablets on the walls?!
Glad you enjoyed it Balcony...I haven't been in the church since my brother's funeral last year but it's a lovely little village meeting place.

Again some lovely pics that did the flowers and the church justice. I wouldn't say that I'm a regular church-goer, but I like the atmosphere and the peace that surrounds them. You all know by now that I'm not the flowery kind of person, but I truly appreciate those who can turn them into artwork, such has been done in that lovely church.

Me neither Merfyn...I went to church far too much as a child to be drawn there now...but I too love the quiet atmosphere & the beauty of it all.
I'm not a vegetable type of person...but I love the pics of onions, toms & marrows people put on from shows etc!

Similar to you Fluff, I was brought up to go to chapel for Sunday school in the afternoon, and evening service. I ended up teaching at Sunday school, and playing the organ at evening service. It must have had an effect on me, because I stay away unless it's for a special occasion. Anyway - we digress! Still lovely places though!

Beautiful Blog, Fluff.
I've really enjoyed these, and avoiding the boring house jobs I'm actually meant to be doing again : )
Well, I too spent too much time - if there is such a thing - in church as a child, and I wouldn't miss it for the world now. As my wise mother-in-law says, and she is not a keen church-goer, when people stop believing in something they start believing in anything!
Don't let the flawed people in churches put you off, they're only human you know!

Thanks Weeding...good to hear from you. My family are all Catholics & I didn't enjoy the heavy, incense - fumed services my brother & I had to endure. Now I love churches but for personal reasons I will not go to a mass again. Glad you liked the flowers!

I'm especially intrigued by pics 17 and 18 - whether the blue display is the same one in both pics? I can't tell, and I've been puzzling over it...
The sunlight coming through the windows has lit up the displays so well, a real treat for the eyes. These photos have made me happy, thinking of an elderly aunt who passed away 1 year ago. She was an artistic lady and loved crafts, colour and her garden and other flowers. She was just the right person to visit flower festivals with. : )) Many happy memories for me.

No the blue one is from the left side...If you loook at pic 13 Weeding it shows the 2 displays ... each one against the little choir stalls. I had trouble with the light there & the flash made the flowers look stark as the blue one shows...they are darker than they show up there.
I'm so glad the pics brought you some happy memories.

I really enjoyed seeing your pictures. Thank you so much. I will be helping decorate our church for harvest soon and I am so looking forward to it though I am haven't done much flowere arranging before. These pictures were a real inspiration. I didn't go to church as a child, shame it puts so many people off.

Lovely pictures Fluff and there are some very talented flower arrangers in your parish. I hope your Mum enjoys seeing the photos and realises what she's missing. I take it you weren't up with the lark taking these this morning! I'm absolutely no good at flower arranging and couldn't bear to pick any flowers from my garden but I do admire the creations of others. They are beautiful, thanks for sharing with us.
