It just had to be done…my car windscreen was frozen solid this morning which was a bit of a shock…especially as my wipers then got stuck! But you’ll never guess what my first thought was as I scraped away with my credit card…my morning glories will soon die if this carries on!!!

Soooo…..I brought them indoors!! To the bedroom window sill!!

Do you think this will work? There are sooo many buds…

Now you can see the lovely view from the bedroom window…south facing so lots of sun for my beauties!

Doesn’t look too silly from outside?!!

When…or if some more come out I’ll try & capture them from the road!

Whaaat, your windscreen frozen over - in Dorset!!! I thought it was supposed to be mild down there. Hope your Morning Glories still do well for you.

We had our 3rd frost of the week today - my first thoughts are always to the plants too, thank goodness I put my gunneras to bed yesterday and mulched my tender perennials.
Your Morning Glories have a lovely view from their warm window now :-)

We had our first snow - mainly sleet though - in the Czech Republic today.....

Temps of -6 forecast for the end of the week. Winter tyres on today......

I know Bulbaholic! It's too soon! The last 2 days have been hot & sunny but with that came the clear night sky with great stars to look at but frost too!! Thank you...they should be happy in the sun.
3rd frost Dawnsaunt? The year has gone by so fast I forget it's October already...especially with today's sun.
Oh Cestina...nice to hear from you but you're making me shiver!! We are lighting log fires every night already but it's nowhere near that cold!
Hi MP...good view eh? The railway line is over there & at night it's lovely to see the lights of the trains go by.
Yes Mookins...Mr. J.Frost is here already!!

The days here have been so warm and sunny Fluff but come sun down, it all changes. I was hoping we wouldnt get frosts until mid November.

13 Oct, 2009

Hi Fluff, we had our first frost this morning but no ice scraping for me thankfully and I'm sat here with no top on again while Carol shivers under a fleece and huge duvet. (and the heating is on! ! !)

13 Oct, 2009

Lovely views from the window wouldn't guess that there had been frosts as it looks so sunny. At least you have forewarned us all. Certainly will be a glorious mornign when the flowers open

13 Oct, 2009

Hi Fluff....hope you can keep your Morning Glories going for a bit longer....Brrrr....it's chilly here too :((

13 Oct, 2009

Me too Dawnsaunt but we've had such changeable weather this summer that it's not surprising the frost has taken us by surprise!

Hey Digger...it's often the way with couples that one shivers while the other throws their clothes off...ooh er missus!

13 Oct, 2009

Thanks Pipsqueak & Di...I think I'll be the only house with these in the window!

13 Oct, 2009

Its lovely, Fluff! I really miss being in the countryside! All I see now are warehouses! :~((

13 Oct, 2009

Yes they look wonderful up there what a lovely display when they open, as long as they are watered and get the light I don't see how they would nt survive with how much loveing tender care you give them.

13 Oct, 2009

That's a shame Marie...it's like me never seeing the sun at work...the factory only has high frosted skylights! i only know it's raining by the sound on the roof!

I'll look after them for sure Morgana...you know me & MGs!!

13 Oct, 2009

It's lucky the frost hadn't already got them Fluff, but they look OK. Frost here too, hubby had to scrape the car at 7am while I was still in bed.
Same clothes situation here Ian, heating not on but it will be when I get out from under this duvet. Laptop and cat are keeping me warm too!

13 Oct, 2009

I've got 2 big jumpers on! I got a laptop, but I dont seem to have wi-fi in my house!!

13 Oct, 2009

I'm now having to pass Carol her coffee so she doesn't have to move from under the duvet! ! !

13 Oct, 2009

Quite right too Ian, what a gentleman you are :o))

13 Oct, 2009

Isnt that what he's for?? they have to have SOME function!

13 Oct, 2009

Good man! I have to pass hubby his beer so he doesn't have to move from the sofa! Not!

13 Oct, 2009

Crumbs...its been warm here.......cloudy though....:)

13 Oct, 2009

Lily...I really thought they'd be done for when I got home tonight but they are fine. Might bring the other ones in if I can find room!

Your turn will come Amble...LOL!!

13 Oct, 2009

Fluff, Just tell hubby he's Tarzan, living in a jungle! LOL

13 Oct, 2009

Hmmmm...somehow that doesn't quite work heh heh! Don't think I've ever seen Tarzan with curly, grey hair!

13 Oct, 2009

13 Oct, 2009

Dont believe that, Fluff!

13 Oct, 2009

morning glories look great, what i wouldnt give for that view you are sooooo lucky.

13 Oct, 2009

I can relate Fluff.....Saturday, Sunday and Monday were all -10C when I went to work. Everyone was taken by surprise with the quick shift in temps. Our irrigation system pipes froze and the filter burst spraying water everywhere. Today it warmed up a bit but with that came SNOW!! AAaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!
Having said all that it's supposed to warm up to 15C on Thursday. ?:oO

14 Oct, 2009

I looked at my morning glory plant today and thought 'no way are you coming indoors'! It's too big to fit anywhere so it will have to take it's chances. I think I have found a seedpod on it though :)

14 Oct, 2009

Thanks Joanella...we know we're lucky with the view...nothing spectacular but green, spacious & concrete free!

Hi Gilli...you do get some weather don't you if you know what I mean!! And I'm complaining after one morning of frost!

Gee - I haven't seen any seed pods yet...maybe too early for mine...are they directly under the flower or is that a silly question?!

14 Oct, 2009

I only 'think' I have a seedpod! When the flower drops off there is a little hard bud shaped thingy. Well, one of these has swelled and has a long point to it. I will watch it carefully and see what it does :)

14 Oct, 2009

Hmmm...watching mine too!!!

14 Oct, 2009

I've taken a photo of the 'thingy' and will post it soon - there are two or three on the plant now!

17 Oct, 2009

The 'indoor' morning glory is flowering but a lot of the buds are falling off before they open...maybe they didn't appreciate the sudden change of climate...or view!

17 Oct, 2009

Maybe it is TOO warm in the house, Fluff. Can you put the pot(s) back outside during the day and when the night temperature is gong to be moderate?

17 Oct, 2009

That's a pity, after all your efforts. I've noticed lots of mine are dropping outside too :)

17 Oct, 2009

Bulbaholic...you know not what you ask!! The thing is about 4 foot long altogether & it took hubby & me some very fancy footwork to get it up the stairs & into the bedroom!! The room is cold...no heating on in the house yet...I suppose it's coming to it's natural end anyway? It did get that first blast of frost before it came indoors too.

I think the bigger buds will be ok Gee...there are so many I'm not surprised they're giving up!

17 Oct, 2009

That was early to have a frost ! I hope you saved your plants

19 Oct, 2009

Yes it was & I did thanks Hywel...things are looking a little tired due to the time of year but the frosts haven't been too harsh so far. Gave me time to protect the frail ones!
