Well here goes, with a lot of help from my GoY freinds

most of you know of my bad luck with my last blog. (just tapped the save draft key and had to work out how to get my blog back, but I mannaged it). What I wanted to do is share with you all, is some of my Ideas were I try to use some of the stuff I do not throw away, rubbish to other people but my brain goe’s into overdrive and I say to myself theres a use for that.2or3 years ago my neighbour had her windows and guttering changed, So I asked the builder if I could have it. After all it’s one less job for him to do to get rid of it .Time goes by and I get hooked on gardening. Soon I thought of the guttering that holds soil or compost, so what did I do! I filled the guttering and put a row of lobelia and french marigolds. It worked ,it did need more drainage ,I just left theends open. That was allright untill I had to water my pot plants. Most of the run off flooded the guttering and mostly they had too much water . They survived quite a while and looked good under my larger pots. I did not take a photo of that though. I was not in contact with GoY. But I thought what can I do with it next! Brain into gear again, I’ve got trailing plants that root if they come into contact with the ground. I had some in baskets and some in small pots just hanging over the edge of aplant stand. I put the pots in the guttering with some compost. They didn’t seem to do anything for a while, but now 3 to 4 weeks on the leaves turned to the light and there is a lot of rooted stems allready. I will divide them and and put them in the G/H for the winter. I am now going to put photo’s with this, so you can see what I’m talking about .

Can anyone tell me the name of this trailing plant
Gosh this has taken along time. Thats the trouble with only using one diggit.
I’lltell you on another blog what I did with the down pipe. Frank

Good idea Frank and you know I want to say it looks a bit like a trailing geranium of some sort... :) ~Cat

You've done brilliantly well - first blog with pictures achieved!! Sorry I can't help with identifying this plant - it certainly has taken off very quickly.

This is commonly known as 'Creeping Charlie'. I don't know the latin name though.

Well done on getting the blog thing mastered Frank. Feels good when you've done it doesn't it? I used to be able to touch type on an old typewriter but just get gobbledygook when I try it on the laptop - one digit makes less mistakes!
No idea what the plant is but the guttering idea looks great, looking forward to hearing about more of your clever ideas

Good blog frank glad you got there in the end.I think the name of the plant is nepeta.

Wow! well done Frank I knew you could do it, as for using one digit that will progres too I now use two digit's and a thumb (for the space bar) :o)))))

Good blog Frank .I type with my left hand only even though I am right handed. It takes me ages to type anything although I am getting better . The fact that someone keeps pinching the letters and leaving caps lock on dosent help.

I have only known creeping charlie as a house plant..hmmm..could be but still seems geranium like in the leaves a bit...this will be interesting to see it produce.. :)

We use creeping charlie in hanging baskets Cat. It's only an annual though.
Well done on the blog Frank........I forgot to say that in my first comment. :o(
Don't worry about the one finger "hunt and peck" typing. Murray only uses one finger to type and is getting very fast now he's had some practice.

Well done Frank...a good blog, and photos too :)) Look forward to reading a few more now you've mastered it!

P.S. Your plant is trailing Nepeta. I use it a lot in hanging baskets, and it's easy to take cuttings from. Some years it will come through a mild winter, but I usually pot a bit up just incase, and keep it in the greenhouse :)

you done good frank; with the blog, getting the picture up and for the idea for the guttering. I too had a LOT of trouble trying to put my pictures on my blogs but after some help from a fellow Goyer I eventually managed it. I was so proud. At the moment I am just trying to put some pictures up, without the blog but not having much success so far...... Best wishes Sue

Thanks everyone, The plant Q. was an after thought and if I had given you some more information about the plant, it might have been easier to identify. It does die in winter, it was by luck that some survived in the G/H. I hadn't got bitten by the gardening bug then. I have never seen any flowers on it, and the leaves grow in pairs off the stems. the leaves are varigated and slightly bigger than a 50p. I have some geraniums . Now I have some names to go on I will try to find them in abook I''ve got. SILLY ME I can tap it in the computer and see what comes up .
I'm going to start the story of the DOWN PIPE now on my blog. Thanks again all Frank

Well done Frank and also I thank you because I have this trailing plant and until reading this blog I did not know its name, mine never flowers but my dads always does and its a tiny mauve flower, its definitely the same plant because I pinched my first cutting from him a few years ago, lol..

I haven't ploughed through all the comments and I suppose someones told you the name of the plant by now, but just in case they haven't, Frank, it's Nepeta related to the mint family I beleive.
Good idea to use the guttering! It's quite often used by vegetable gardeners to sow early peas in then when it's time to plant in the garden, they just dig a trench and slide the plants in . A good way of transplanting without disturbing the roots!

It's good to put things to other uses Frank. My dad kept everything and I'm now in the process of clearing out his house. I don't know what to do with all the stuff he kept incase it came in handy, but I've found a pile of strong envelopes that I'm going to keep so that I can send cuttings etc in them to my GoY friends. The envelopes have been used once but that doesn't matter. It saves buying new ones.
