WINTER BLUES

Hi GoY freinds,
I can’t seem to get going in the G/H or the garden. Must be WINTER BLUES. To get me motivated We went to Percy Throwers G/C. to get a little enthusiasm. There was a glimmer of motivation because I bought some seed potatoes ,to grow in bags. When I saw the growing bags I thought thats a bit expensive for what they are.I had an idea that I have seen similar for alot less money. Then it struck me where GREEN BAGS (grocery bags) they are made from the same material and nearly the same size, and for 49p each can’t go wrong. I bought 4 and still could have had another 4 and still not paid as much for the G/C ones.
This is just a short blog to say I’m still here and to wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Frank.

Happy New Year Frank. No wonder you can't get motivated - who could in this big freeze. Good on you for the tatties, hope they are a big success.
At least they won't have cost much, especially if you can have a few from a friend who grows them in a bigger way. It hardly seems worth paying out for a whole bagful to use just a few.

And happy new year to you Frank.still as resourceful as ever, I see. I must say, I was very good and industrious today. My potting shed was in a real state as I didn't get round to clearing /cleaning it in the summer so there was lot's to do before this years seed sowing season. I cleared and swept the benches and floor/ sorted out which seeds I would keep and which are too old to keep and washed some of my pots /seed trays! Not as interesting as going to the garden centre but it had to be done!!

Happy new year to you and yours Frank, as Spritz said we 're all in the same boat, I've just been poking around in my little mini greenhouse (all covered in fleece )and found about six fuchia cuttings dead as a dodo, frozen solid. Oh woe !

I did go for my little walk in the garden and G/H. I'm so glad I put my heater on afew days ago.I'm just keeping it at 2-3 deg above freezing. I don't seem to have lost any plants, mainly fuschias, they still have small green shoots on them.My arum lily has at last flopped over. And I was surprised how much bigger my one and only cineraria and few calceolaria's have grown. I started them off from seed, they spread well over the edge of 4" pots. I also put up a bird feeding station to please my wife. After 1 hr that was enough for me.
Tomorrow I am going to find somewhere to put my spuds to 'chitt', I've found out thats what to do first with them. NICE CHATTING TO YOU ALL AGAIN .Frank

Haven't seen any birds on it yet Jacque, but I think once they have found it, they will visit it constantly. About the potatoes Ive looked at what to do on potatoe growing sites, for container grown potatoes. Frank

Hi Frank, another useful tip from you, I've just looked you up as I've bought a dahlia and I put a question on about it today so I'm going to re-visit your dahlia blog. If you have the time, I would be grateful if you could look at my 'dahlia question' and you would also see a pic of my lovely pink dahlia:-)
