Gardeners World

Did anyone see Gardener"s World on Friday? As sadly i missed it.
Why i am asking, was that i was curious to know if it had improved at all?

Was it any better? Or just not worth looking at. There must have been
some good tips for Spring planting, and preparing for Summer.
I did so want to see it, does anybody know if they are showing a repeat
at all?

I watched it.

It was much better, the silliness had gone and the format was back to how it used to be.
It showed how to sow tomato seeds (!), talked about raspberry plants and Snowdrops ..... it was a wee bit dull for me but there ..... the main thing for me was that it was a sensible adult programme again.

I fast forwarded a lot of it though :-/

Sorry , fell asleep but will try again next week. I hope it's a big improvement on the last series. As I see it the producers have a dilemma in that while they need to encourage new gardeners, the more experienced get bored at being shown how to sow Tomato seeds. Gardening is so popular in the UK so I can't see why the Beeb can't run two programs at least in the season.

The first show is available on BBCi player...
just google Gardeners' World bbciplayer and you'll reach it.

Carol Klein was interesting from her garden in Devon.
A snowdrop specialist gave an fascinating interview.

I didn't like seeing the NGS Yellow Book made muddy, and then balanced up high on top of a post in the wet weather...
a joke perhaps, but not a good example....

7 Mar, 2010

im going to watch it on laptop like Terra said, so cant say whether its good or bad , i do like carol klein though :o))

7 Mar, 2010

Thanks Louise for your informative comment. I think the BBC have been
told to put the Zest back into the Show, seems as though they are
trying!

Oh! Heron, cannot believe it was that boring! LOL
Thank you, TT for your Info. Carol Klein is very good, i believe they are
going to put her in the Lead for Gardener"s World......hope so, she
deserves it!!

7 Mar, 2010

We could have a campaign, perhaps Carol as PM? :-)

7 Mar, 2010

Yes, i am going to do the same as you Sanbaz.
I do not think so Ba. I would rather see her doing what she is good
at Gardening..........Mind you i think she could be a good PM
LOL.

7 Mar, 2010

The Snowdrop enthusiast, even has 1 named after him, was interesting,Carol Klein is still so keen that you can't help but listen, but Toby still talks to camera as though his audience are Blue Peter age !
I wouldn't rush to see the next programme.

7 Mar, 2010

I watched it put mostly to see Carol Klein, like Megan says she is so keen and i find her very interesting to watch.

7 Mar, 2010

7 Mar, 2010

Info. details of the show, was interesting Megan. I think Toby needs to
improve, could be the reason why the show is not so popular now.
Carol Klein, seems to be a favourite Clarice. I can just visualise you
Derek throwing your tv in the Dustbin LOL

7 Mar, 2010

Derekf : I agree with you on putting the tv in the bin, I hardly watch it any more.

7 Mar, 2010

8 Mar, 2010

I lost interest with the opening item and turned it off, I will try again next week though.

9 Mar, 2010

I though it was better not so silly
I also didnt like the yellow book covered in mud not showing very much respect for all the good it and all the people who are in it do!:(
I loved the Galanthus section and unfortunatley re kindled my desire to collect them (I think i can resist no longer ) I have started a list and grumpy is at the top. lol
Carol was great as always.
I never noticed but thats whats wrong with Toby he talks to much to camera and treats us like we are on Blue Peter, you were right Megan.
It was much better i thought.

9 Mar, 2010

I still have not watched it yet! I am going to try today on my Lap Top on
BBC1 Player on Google. TT gave me this info. which i am grateful for.
Thanks again TT. Don`t give up on it Drc i think they are trying to
improve it, so they say in AG, Its funny Vicky how you seem to have siimilar
views as Megan, its got to be Toby that is putting the spoiler on this
otherwise good Gardening Programme.

10 Mar, 2010

Once Toby had made the Yellow Book muddy and had put it high on the post in the rain... I couldn't concentrate on the remainder of that section... just kept spotting the book still there getting soaked.... :o( ...Alys was only a few yards away inside the potting shed, so could have easily put the book somewhere clean and dry...
On Blue Peter, they would be more respectful to books... Gardeners' World even showed a close-up camera shot of the muddy book.... not funny ... the NHS gardeners work hard to raise money for good causes...

Yes, the Snowdrop feature made you feel you want to have MORE !

The programme seems a better format than last year, but still needs further thought. Carol is fab....:o)

10 Mar, 2010

I finally got to watch the programme at long last. I rather enjoyed it, Toby
still camera gazing, but i just think its a habit with him, i know its a bit
off putting but if you can get over it, he is quite good at what he does.
As for the book, i seem to think it was actually the fault of Joe for passing
the book to him in the pouring rain, after all, what was he supposed to do
with it.....when presenting the show. And we know he dirtied the book
with his dirty hands, but, how was he going to wash his hands before
recieving it. I think it was a stupid time for Joe to give him the Book.
I really enjoyed the Snowdrop Feature, the chap that was telling us all
about them, had a good collection, knew all there was to know about
Snowdrops, but had that slow drawn out voice that could easily send you
to sleep. Alys was her bright chirpy self and Carol gave us her views
and tips on the Buttercup family which i enjoyed. Not too bad at all.

10 Mar, 2010

I am warming to Alys :)

11 Mar, 2010

I am as well Vicky, she neve gets a mention as to her being a Presenter.

11 Mar, 2010

One final comment on the muddy book..... the Gardeners' World producers could have edited out that piece of filming and shown a bit more about gardening instead ! Yes, Alys is acceptable as a presenter...

11 Mar, 2010

I could not see the point of it the timing was all wrong. They could have
have waited for the right moment, after all as you say TT the NGS Yellow
Book, is an Important Item, so come on GW have some respect for it!!

11 Mar, 2010

Agree, Freesiaperson...
That's why I summed up earlier on by saying ...
The programme seems a better format than last year, but still needs further thought. ....

Let's hope the Gardeners' World people read your blog and take note of all the comments ! Thanks for making the blog, enabling us to give our views...:o)

11 Mar, 2010

I hope so too TT....Enjoyed this Blog and Thanks, to members for all your views......: -)))

11 Mar, 2010

I think Toby sees his reflection in the camera & rather likes it :o).
I do like Carol, saw her today on tele. presenting a programme about the Yellow Book Scheme & how they vet you. It may have been a re-run but I hadn't seen it before.
My favourite presenter apart from Geoff, was Alan Titchmarsh, but I have to say that as I have a photo of him with his arm around me. (Book signing at Eden)
Very disrespectful TT getting the book muddy.

19 Mar, 2010

I agree with you Pam...Geoff was my fav...and i like Alan and Carol...Alan has a new gardening programme on TV this autumn, focusing on how large gardens influence design today....

1 Apr, 2010

Oh! That must have been great meeting Alan Titchmarsh, especially
having his arm around you...Yes, i used to like Geoff Hamilton a great
deal, very fond of seeing him in his own Garden,on GW..I think we will all
get used to Toby, long term. I have always liked him, reminds me of Alan
seems to have the same style! So sorry, that i did not reply to your
Comment before now Pam....Looking forward to Alan`s new show
Motinot, as long as it is better than his show at the moment, thats
showing...Much better at Gardening, than Entertainment!!

2 Apr, 2010

Did anyone enjoy tonights offering? Yes I did! I'd love to see Tresco and what about that agave? Really enjoyed it so much that I missed Ashes to Ashes:-)

2 Apr, 2010

Yes, I watched Bornagain, was very interesting. Tresco is really like that,we've been several times. I still wish they were gardening a real garden, it's like them working with cardboard cutouts, through the make believe door !! & look here's the back garden. (Blue Peter) again. Carol is good though. I used to like Rachel de Thame when she was on it.

3 Apr, 2010

The exotic garden was good wasn't it, who'd have thought 2 men could have done it by themselves;-)) Lucky you visiting Tresco:-)))

3 Apr, 2010

Yes, I loved the exotic one, very junglefied.:o) The Tresco trip was with our HPS group they get a good deal, we actually stayed on Tresco. Have been twice so far, they are talking of doing another one. If on holiday in cornwall anytime you can do a day trip on the Scillonian although the helicopter is quickest, 20 mins.

3 Apr, 2010

Sounds lovely Pam, I think I might have a little moan...I was very interested when it was mentioned that they would be covering small trees, but was disappointed that very little info was given such as final height or care tips or how or if you can keep them in bounds etc, I may as well read about them in one of my books, I would have got more info. But apart from that...:-))

3 Apr, 2010

I was enjoying it but then we both fell asleep and missed about 15mins
We always manage to drop off even though we quite like it now
I think Toby will grow on me I already like him better than at the start
Alsy has her own program they said I might try to stay awake though that lol
I dont think its their fault that we drop off I think we are just tired after being out in the cold all day lol :)))
