Thanks Fluff ... I was hoping to save the seed from it but as they go over the dead flower heads fall off , so how can I save seed ...where is it ?

When I googled Chinese Bell Flower Amy it came up with Platycodon...what I call a balloon flower ... is it the same thing?

No Fluff it isn't .. I have a Platycodon , like you I call it a Balloon flower , it's quite different .. .. I believe the Chinese Bell flower comes under the heading of an Abutilon , I wonder why it came up with that ...I will have a look as well ...

I've found one called Abutilon ' Ashford Red ' Which is very similar to mine Fluff ... I bought my seed from a place called ' The seed hut ' on ebay .... £ 1.99 for 8 seeds only two of them grew .... I'm actually wondering why they called it a Chinese Bell flower ?

4 Aug, 2010

Yes Abutilon came up too. Confusing eh? Oh well names get changed all the time & mixed & matched I suppose! It's gorgeous whatever it's name!!

Maybe I should change the name heading to Abutilon with ( Chinese bell flower in brackets ) ........ it is confusing !

4 Aug, 2010

I must say it looks more like the former than the latter so yes ... good idea!

Fluff would you believe I walked into the sitting room after writing that last piece and there sitting on the coffee table was the latest Magazine. RHS 'The Garden' and there on the front cover is a photo of my Ablutilon ... headlines .. Beauty of Summer Bells ... so thats it deffinatley there are two whole pages showing all kinds of Abutilon apparently there are some for almost every month of the year and are hardier then you would think .. .. :o))

Well blow me down with a wet kipper! There you go then ... officially an Abutilon! I've never had one ... friend of mine does tho' & it's huge! About 5ft tall!
