Every year house martins try to build under our eaves, but each time they have been unsucessful because it was too dry and the mud wouldn't adhere. In an old house we used these very successfully, so are hoping these new boxes will give them a head start. We shall see - keep your fingers crossed!

Yes, didn't want OH hanging dangerously from the eaves, girls, while he put it up. This is a safer position!

Lovely to do that for the house martins. I hope they nest there for you.

Well, I've never seen these ready-made nest boxes.

Klahanie, it is of the swallow family. Delightful little birds with a confiding chirrup and chatter. They usually turn up sometime this month and make nests of clay.
Siris, they've been about a few years. I think we put the first lot up at least 25years ago.

Thanks, Linda, so do I!

It's the birds that don't have old nests to build on who I think have it the hardest in the dry summers, Paul. Probably the youngsters. There's no guarantee that they'll take me up on my offer, but as they're about round here, it's worth a try.

Thank you, Meadow. They are sited over our balcony; easier to reach to put up and easier to clean under! We don't go out there except for maintenance so they won't be disturbed, but we shall be able to watch from our landing window if they deign to take up residence.
