Here is when they first mowed the field to start placing the pea shrubs for the hedge. This is 3 petals of our classic 5 petal rose in the tradition of our tribal beadwork.

Thanks for all the comments. I did have to find the shot, didn't fly over myself. :-) They have just two of the petals planted with our siberian pea shrub. It gets to 12-15 ft tall and blooms a shock of yellow flowers in spring. I can't wait for it to grow in, its real trusty in our climate. This is on the edge of the childrens garden section. One of the thinkers behind it said she wanted the space used for the garden before another professor thought up a use for the property. I walked one petal and even being able to see over, I was lost! :-)

Nice to see the aerial shot...not sure if I'd enjoy getting lost in it though!!!

It was immediately daunting. The maze is for wasting away an afternoon. It is so large, one would have to plan a whole afternoon. :-) At least mazes have multiple ways, not a labyrinth you;d get trapped.

What is your tribe GT? I used to rent a room at my house to a young man of Chippewa descent...his mother and family own a large horse ranch in Idaho. Last name Evans.

The tribe tradition I'm mentioning is athabascan and inupiat. The five petal flower is a much used pattern in arctic beadwork. Without reservations in Alaska the native traditions mingle into the introduced traditions. Alcohol is still having the same problem that it has always seen, introduced to a culture that never had it before. I'm just a long removed Welch and Scottish man with a shock of Dutch. :-) Coming from Salmon Idaho I have gained some tradition passed on by the ranching life, leftovers from the nez pierce influence there in the late 1800's before they were settled in Oklahoma. Amazing what a similarity of lifestyles the cowboy and the indian came to have in the west.

i wanted to plant one here when we first moved in but never did. now seventeen years later a young vistior anounced to me that ''i just got lost in your garden....its like a maze...'', made my day..;-))

Oh, that is wonderful. :-) I'll have the space one day. :-)

Thank you GT..I got lost ..thinking you were still in Idaho visiting your parents..lol.
Thank you as well for your info on the tribes of the arctic...it is wonderful as I am so interested in how they lived with nature and still do in this day and am so glad they are holding on to their culture as much as they have..and hope one day we can all learn more from them. Pehaps then the alcohol will not have such a strong hold on them as it has for this past few hundred years. They have such a long history it has to still be very strong within them. I hope it will get stronger and stronger.

They are holding on. Alcohol is illegal in some areas of Alaska so village life stays pretty true. The move to town, or the need for 'things' is really the big thing that changes life.
To avoid confusion, I visited in the summer and am just now posting those warm summer photos. -30F tonight!
