I have three C. cirrhosas, this one, 'Freckles' and 'Wisley Cream' - all in flower. They don't seem to worry about temperatures! :-)))

I lost my C.cirrhosa var balearica last winter :-(

Very unusual to see flowering Clematises in Winter...I love it!
Is there a variety of winter-flowering one for our 5th hardness zone...or the 6th?

18 Dec, 2009

Uma - I hate to disappoint you, but I just checked the zones and the hardiness of the C. cirrhosa group, and they wouldn't survive in your area. I am sorry!

Not in the same place spritz. It was planted with a honeysuckle and they need pruning at different times so it was a bit of a nightmare

18 Dec, 2009

I don't prune my cirrhosas, Andrew???

Fabulous Spritz....that really is a beautiful colour for Winter. I have the Freckles in bloom at the moment......

Spritzhenry, but if it will be sheltered...

18 Dec, 2009

What a lovely rich shade of red or pink?

19 Dec, 2009

Thanks, Dd - Uma, I still have my doubts - but if you can get one in the spring, why not try it?

19 Dec, 2009

I left my cirrhosa unpruned for several years but it got quite unruly. Trying to disentangle the honeysuckle to prune that was not easy. Some years there was a short 'window' after the clematis had flowered and before the honeysuckle started into growth when they could be be cut back at the same time but most years there wasn't

OK , Amy - but my wish-list grows, too! LOL.

19 Dec, 2009

I agree Amy...I had to buy C 'Princess Diana' and C 'Jan Fopma'...most def dont have room for any more Spritz....:>)

20 Dec, 2009

I bought 'Princess Diana' after I saw the one in Louise's garden. :-))) That was another 'shoe-horn' job!

20 Dec, 2009

Lovely photo Spritz, I want the Wisley Cream but cant go out and buy it as I think one of my lads has got it for me for Christmas. Next problem where the heck to squeeze it in.

22 Dec, 2009

Want to borrow my shoe horn, Stroller? LOL.

22 Dec, 2009

Super colour Spritz. It looks like it will keep you warm in the Winter!
I bought "Princess Diana", too. Good first year. Am hoping it will really glow in '010.

23 Dec, 2009

Oh, and me, Ponty! I have it climbing through a Viburnum tinus. That keeps it away from the stone walls where the snails lurk, ready to 'chomp' my Clematis. Haha - I fooled them this time! ;-)

23 Dec, 2009

Winter blooming clematis! wonderful..I have never seen it..I learn something new everytime I come on here..!

23 Dec, 2009

It certainly is, Cat - a necessity in my garden, I think! :-)))
