Sparrowhawk on the lookout

Sparrowhawk on the lookout

Regular visitor to the seed feeder! It’s a beauty, but, hate to see it go off with a little bird.
Fortunately, we have some shrubbery for the little ones to hide in and under.

Thanks Paul! Caught sight of it the other day, just happened to be sat in the snug at the back of the house and thought - quick, camera!

It looks a beauty, Kate. I read recently that you only see them in gardens where the bird population is thriving, so your avians must be doing well. I try to remind myself that they have young to feed, too. Heartbreaking to watch when the little birds try to fight back, though. Sometimes I wish the deed was over much more quickly....

Thanks Ange, that’s good to hear! We do have quite a lot of bird callers to the garden and bund. I hate to think about the hawks grabbing a little bird, but, I try to rationalise and think it’s to feed one of their youngsters like you say.

Pleased to say I've seen some greenfinches back in the garden in the last couple of days.

That’s good to hear, we’ve had a few finches, green and gold visit one of the feeders.

Brilliant capture Kati. Often by the time we have got the camera ours /she has flown off.

Thank you, Eileen! This one seems to sit for a while, we are very fortunate!

We sometimes get one here which hides under the hedge.

They are beautiful aren’t they, but, definitely a little birds nightmare..

Good capture Kate. I know it's not nice that they take other birds to eat, but they have to survive and that's nature. Mankind can be a lot crueller.

Linda, thank you. Have to agree, we are definitely more cruel!
