Thats a lovely pic Eileen.......

Is it not strange, that something of such ephemeral grace and beauty should come from such a destructive little pest of a caterpillar. Thank the good lord that someone has invented insect mesh, for now I can happily watch their ephemeral flutterings as they dance together in the summer air over my cabbages growing below them, blissfully ignorant of the fate so closely passing them by....heh heh heee!!!!

Lovely pic Eileen....its an unusual white one isn't it?

5 Aug, 2009

What you have there is a "Large white" female the male doesn't have the spots but is otherwise the same, some call them cabbage whites as they feed on plants in the cabbage family (well the caterpillars do), but these will also feed on nasturtiums and mignonettes. There are 2 generations a yearApril to June andJuly to sept. Thre is a native population but they also migrate from the continent each year , so the one in your pic may speak french or dutch or even german!
