Love is blossoming all over my yard it seems !

I feel like the Discovery channel...lol, And No, I didn't hang around to see if she ate his head afterwards...lol. I read that only happens rarely in the wild, 4 out of 5 times the male gets away. Besides, I think they average mating for at least six hours, sometimes up to 24 hours, and I have too much to do around here to invest that kind of time....lol.

Thanks everyone ! It was certainly a case of being in the right place..., this is the first time, out of all my years of gardening that I have run across this ritual myself, and I felt privileged to witness this little miracle of life and thrilled to be able to get it on film.

I love having them climb all over me. I found a caccoon, and hoped to get a butterfly, instead I got 50 baby praying mantis'. I had them climbing all up and down my arm. They eventually died because my mother put water in their jar.

Very cool pic Flcrazy. I'm pretty sure the male dies shortly after mating anyway so it doesn't matter really if she eats him or not.
