My suggestion is, grow the basil on your kitchen window sill, it's nice to chomp. One or two tiny pots.

Nice lot of seeds Sandra. I grow my french beans in a trough. You could get a few growbags and grow your things in there-that's what I do as I have not much garden! My basil is in a window box. You could grow your courgettes in your little greenhouse! :-)

thanx richard once this awfull weather changes i will get into it more, its awfull today, hope my new plants dont suffer with gales and heavy rainfall :o(

The basil can be sown now (ours is "through"). We used three 3" pots and sowed a few seeds in each, placed on a bright windowsill, and placed a cut lemonade bottle over them., watered only the once. Later, divide the clumps of seedlings into half again and pot on in larger pots (they look and grow better in small groups rather than singly.
The salad stuff can be sown now, too. Use a small window box or trough, and keep in a bright place indoors.
The carrots can also be sown in window boxes/troughs in April. You could harvest them small as "babies".
Also, leave the courgettes and beans until late April, and start indoors/iin youyr greenhouse in trays or small pots. Transplant outdoors beginning of June. Courgettes make great container plants (I really like the leaves and flowers) and the beans could be grown in growbags with supports or in pots, too. :-))

Have you had a look in the french bean packet Sandra. I looked in mine and french bean is the correct label as there was only one bean seed in there lol. I have planted it in a single pot ! Lucky I had another packet of them that I bought previously to plant up :-)

Richard and Sandra I thought the dig in campaign was for small spaces and small gardens!!!???!!! So why oh why are the courgettes to be planted 3 feet apart!!!!! Seems crazy to me whos got all that space?
12 Apr, 2010
David has a good suggestion above Great. To plant the courgettes in pots-that is what I will be doing as I have not much space either :-)

I will pass on them, is the salad lettuce leaves, i grow lettuce leaves in a pot as they keep coming back, did a pot about 3wks ago and i'm going to do another this weekend and the 2pots will last me all summer. You could be a veg grower, think BBC are trying to encourage everyone to grow their own food.
