African Fanfare Heather

I bought this off the market this morning , the stall holder couldn't tell me it's name only that it was a Heather , he said that's why they were cheap £ 3.99 .. I think it's beautiful ., does anyone know it's name please ?

It looks like one of the South African Cape heaths - maybe Erica Gracillis or Mammosa but there are over 750 species - not hardy but lovely. Have a look at http://www.heathersociety.org.uk/ and you may be able to recognise it in their photos.

I've been told by Anchorman that it is an African Fanfare Heather and not hardy as you have said Wagger , thats a shame as I was going to make a pot up with it for the winter , I will go and have a look at the Heathersociety site Wagger , thanks ... :-)

I'm disappointed San , goes to show these stall holders sell these plants without knowing very much about them .. I will try to take cuttings in case it dosn't go through the winter .........

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to you Amy but it isnt the same as mine, as mine as flowers all the way up the shoot. Pleased you have a name just a pity it is'nt hardy

I will find somewhere for it San , I wouldn't like to lose it ,it's so pretty . I will keep it warm Dawn even if it has to stay on the kitchen window sill ..;o)
Never mind Carole , it's a shame it's not hardy , I will enjoy it and keep it for as long as I can .. :o))

I brought it into the porch today Yorkshire I don't want to risk an early frost getting it , I took some cuttings as well , fingers crossed for them :o)

It is isn't it Dd , I went back to the market today to se if he had anymore plants but he hadn't , I have taken some cuttings off mine and will be keeping my fingers crossed for them :o)
