Peanut Plant (Arachis hypogaea) - a present from my Dad.

My Dad got this for us, because he thought that it was unusual. Little did he realise that he was making a major contribution to our "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" theme! In the story, Veruca Salt's father owns a peanut factory (or peanut plant, haha!).
This is an indoor plant, and is growing in full sun in my south-facing lounge window. it may soon outgrow the novelty peanut pot holder (which the children love), but I doubt whether we'll ever really be able to dig up real peanuts, haha!

It is fun, isn't it, Tasteyg? For growing instructions, I found a marvellous website - aboutpeanuts.com, on Virginia/Carolina peanuts. It has a marvellous history section and kids' section.

will it have peanuts???

thanks, folks, we love this!
Sandra, I'll transplant it several times, then uproot it to check (but doubt it in our climate).

it will be nice in the chocolate garden even without the new nuts

What a great 'topic', ha! You're not 'nutty' about gardening at all really? You'll have to 'squirrel' away some seeds to plant in the pot at a later date when it outgrows this pot, not enough room in there for a 'brazilian' rain forest or a twisted 'hazel' though! I love taking a 'pecan' at your pics, there's always something mouth-wateringly chocolate about them. Yes, you've guessed it....I'm a total 'nutcase'!

I've never seen a peanut
grown in a nutty pot
and for a squirrel I suppose
They'd like it quite a lot.
Be careful where you put it
or you may shed a tear
because the nutty planting
will end up gone I fear.
All the local squirrels
will eye it up each day
so careful where you put it
whilst it is on display.
They'll raid an open window
they'll gatecrash through the door
to take your nutty little pot
back to their nesting floor.

Glad you like this, too, Ualda. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the plant has now outgrown its peanut pot, and has been transplanted into a larger container.
