Here is a patch of Montbretia that has formed from corms left when I dug a large clump out last year....I'm pleased these were left in, they've given the most flowers.....:o)

Funny plants these! I can't seem to get them to flower on my balcony! I've had them for quite a number of years as well. I pulled out all the ones that were sharing a pot with a standard Fuchsia. They have shared the same pot for at least 3 or 4 years. They come up lovely & green every year then about July they start to go brown & then die back. They look horrible like that. So a couple of weeks ago I pulled up as much as I could & have now planted them down on the allotment! What's the betting that next year they will flower themselves almost to death!

I'm wondering if they were too crammed in with your standard Fuchsia Balcony, and they do need a lot of water to flower. I reckon like you say they'll be happiest on your alloyment...plenty of room and rain....:o) Fuchsias haven't been very good have yours Balc? We're going to out most of them and not bother next year...only one or two for baskets. How did your little pelargoniums come on? Do you remember that variegated Fuchsia I have....well you were right, not a white flower....white and lilac...pretty though...........

Yes they soon multiply don't they Cristina. There are some beauties to be had though.....a couple of years ago we visited Mr Crocosmias garden (he hasn't been on here for a while) and there were so many different ones ranging from pale lemon to darkest red, just stunning.........

My Fuchsias haven't done as well this year as last. I don't know why but perhaps it was the very hot summer we had. They don't like it so hot. I discovered that in Spain many, many years ago! They like our more "traditional" UK weather during a "normal" British summer - perhaps that's why they did so well last year!
Having said that I see in people's gardens here that many are flowering really well - perhaps there is something else I'm missing.
I imagine Hywel's Fuchsias are doing well as the weather in Wales has been cooler than here & they have had enormous amounts of rain.
