New cactus dahlia flower opening.

Lovely Looks like one I have called Jura

This one is called "Veritable", but it could be a very similar cultivar. I wonder if different companies give different names to the same plant??

I've often wondered that too, Chris. I planted cactus dahlias this season for the first time...they are just nicely growing as it was so cool for so long. i'm impatiently awaiting their debut. The package I bought just said "cactus type" no name or variety given... would it be so hard to put a sticker on a label saying var. of .... etc. ?? so mine will be a true surprise package. can't wait to see what colours I bought ! lol....

I started this one off in the house Lori. Then I put it out in April (it is reasonably warm here by then). That way I got flowers much earlier. The ones I planted straight in the garden are not in bud yet, though in previous years I have had flowers in June, but this year they are later.

Beautiful dahlia, it looks like my 'Veritable', and yes I do believe some companies give different names to the same plant, a few do it to get out of paying royalities back to the breeder if the plant has been patented.
