Meconopsis betonicifolia alba

Janey

By Janey

Meconopsis betonicifolia alba (Meconopsis betonicifolia (Himalayan blue poppy))

I couldn't wait to see this little beauty open, grown from seeds sent by Amy, this is it's third year, and first flowers and they're white! Just as pretty as the blue though.

This is so beautiful, I like the white you do not see it as often as the blue.

I hadn't seen the white before Dd...it is a treat, there are lots more buds to come too!
They are a bit special aren't they Vincent....I've protected it with some short sticks, it seems to be in a place where the cats like to leap....:o(
Thanks for the lovely comments girls.....still looks like it needs a good iron though...Lol!

Thanks Jennyfer!
They are a thrill to grow Karen aren't they....I saw them for the first time in Ambleside in the lakes, must be 30years ago...and have loved them ever since. I don't have quite the perfect conditions, but this one is doing okay....:o)

Ooo the whites lovely Janey, love it, I have some sent from Amy of the blue one and I have buds too, Amy said to cut the buds off the first year but just had to leave them on one, can't wait I've always loved these but never been able to get them to germinate.

lol...I have never, ever been able to cut a flower bud off any plant for the sake of it's vigour! It's just too hard!!

Ive sown the seeds, but only got one seedling so far..by the time it grows, winter will be here! But I must say this picture gives me hope. Its lovely.

Kathy, my garden isn't the best place for them either, another one I have is just a small rosette...no flowers. I suppose you'll have a stronger plant if you remove the buds now, but don't think I could bear to either...Lol!

That's right Karen, especially when they are such tricky plants to start with!

Fingers crossed for next Spring Tet, at least the cold winters suit them....:o)

Oh good, glad about that at least. Sounds like they like fairly acid soil? Must make a pocket for them if they grow!

I proved I could do it yesterday! I had three small cuttings of tender osteos from last year and they had buds on, so I cut off every single bud to get bigger plants......see I CAN do it!! lol ;)

Karen, did you have to fortify yourself with a drop of something, or goad yourself into it, or psyche yourself up? I cant believe how much nerve it takes to pinch out plants, makes me really nervous lol!

Just girded my loins Tetrarch and took a deep breath and visualised the plants all bushy and glorious!
