I love it, but mind the thorns - they're the worst ones I know! Always the first rose to come out here.

I like that one, how tall does it get please? I am looking for something to climb up that new arbour at the back, so it would have to like a bit of shade, any ideas Karen please. Not really bothered as long as it has got colour do not really want foliage plant though.

Ha ha....no wonder you couldn't resist....it's gorgeous!
Looking forward to seeing more pics as it grows....

2.5m x 2.5 m mum ...or thereabouts. It needs sun though. For shade I think Albertine or Souvenir du Docteur Jamain. But if you look on Austin website they will have a list on there of what will take shade. Oh, nearly forgot, the beautiful Shropshire Lad...does really well in shade, and it is such a stunning rose....I love it. And it climbs, and not a lot of thorns either. :))

Oji....have you ever grown a moss rose? Or I have another one here....Harlow Carr..the blooming thing is nothing BUT thorns! lol :)) I've removed several roses because they were just too thorny, so I am a little wary of this one, but a rose that flowers this early is very special.

PP...bitter sweet memory for you...a lovely memorial. They look wonderful grown as a weeping standard. I saw a photo of one on Google.

Thanks very much everyone! :))

Mum, will you be getting a clematis viticella for that arbour? would be stunning! I can just imagine rosa 'A shropshire lad' partnering C. vit. 'Etoile Violette' on there!....sigh!

10 May, 2012

Does it mind shade that one Karen, I mean Etoile Violette, I have Etoile Rose and it likes the sunshine so would be nice, Violette looks quite a lot darker I love it.

10 May, 2012

My viticellas all take some shade mum. Most of them are growing in trees or against the fence so they all have shade at some point. They don't seem to mind too much.

Oh that is good news, thank you. Now all I have to do is find the one that I like the most. lol. off to look at Taylors website. I am thinking of growing them in pots to try and keep the rabbit away from them until they get established. Will have to buy another rose think it is Etoille de Hollande that he has eaten every bit of, don't think it will survive too much damage. Shall put in big planters and see how they go..
