The buds stayed closed in the cold weather - they're just opening now.

No. Sadly not. We're only in mid-January, so I'm not holding my breath - but I've never seen so many buds on my Viburnums before! If they do open, the bushes will be a picture. :-))

Nice close up Spritz.....

Isn't it a lovely colour? Mine have really been hit with the frosts and all the flowers are drooping down and the leaves all blackened....I hope they will recover....

You really do get hit hard up there Karen, its such a shame..but plants are so resiliant..cant believe what has survived here..

Not usually Tetrarch. Winter of 2007-8 we had no discerninble frost at all! This year.....awful! :((

When its bad, its really, really bad..where did that come from? Kids rhyme I think. Cant believe you had no frost up there...Im hopeless at remembering year on year, unless it was a disaster year!

I think it's because we've only been here for nearly 5 years, and I have been so focused on the garden that I notice the weather conditions very much. I wish those mild winters would return...I really did like them better than all this mush and rotting leaves and blackened evergreens and flooding......yuck! I've just been outside - howling winds, and planted five new plants in the soil, but I definitely will NOT be watering them in, I just hope they don't rot!

Nice day tomorrow Karen!

Yippee! That will be lovely, I can get my roses in, and some of that awful rotting detritus off the top of the soil where it is now going all mouldy and horrid!

oh dear darned windy tho for you..and heavy rain about 3pm..thats for Edinburgh..we got rain today and sun tomorrow..and much lighter winds. Still they say it could be better this week, if colder.

I admit to inheriting this, plus no less that three others by the front gate! I have planted two V. tinus variegatus, though since we came, and they're small but doing fine - one has masses of buds on it! Very pretty leaves. :-)
I also planted a V. bodnantense 'Dawn' two years ago - no flowers at all as yet. Patience, patience! :-((

Tetrarch, they've changed the forecast, heavy rain today rest of the week sunshine!!
Spritz, I planted Dawn a few years ago & it's never flowered, time to come out I think, or a good talking to.lol
17 Jan, 2011
Hmm. I'd agree with that, Pam! :-(

I cut my dawn back hard early last year...no flowers yet:-( Your tinus looks lovely Spritz:-)

Thanks, Ba. I wonder how long it will be (in years) before I get to see a flower on 'Dawn'??
19 Jan, 2011
Mine never really did much, yet just around the corner from me is a real beauty. Who can figure? :-)
