Christmas in the Lake District

On Wednesday Sophie and myself are off to the frozen north – well, Wasdale actually. Hopefully we will make it past Watford.
There is a reason for our trip. My brother died 10 years ago at a relatively young age and since then I have been trying to scatter his ashes on the top of Scafell because that’s what he wanted.
I first tried about 8 years ago when I still had my Maltese. We were doing really well until just a short distance from the summit the mist came down together with rain, hail, sleet and what seemed like a force 8 gale. We gave up.
Two years after that I booked a cottage in Gosforth, which is not far from Wasdale, with view to trying from a different direction. Unfortunately I got as far as Birmingham when I realised ‘my boy’ was still sitting in the hall at home. Oh dear.
Last year there was another attempt, this time with Sophie coming along, but just as we got to Wastwater there was a crash of thunder, a flash of lightening and torrential rain. I’m beginning to wonder if he has changed his mind, or maybe just testing me.
Anyway, hopefully this is the year. We are staying at an Inn right on the lake and with nowhere to go other than up, so fingers crossed.
I will try to add some pictures of the ‘Birmingham’ week, which were taken on the way up to Great Gable.
Happy Christmas to everyone on GoY,
Love from Sophie and me. xxx

Thankyou Terra and Hywel, I'll try and get some clearer pics this time but it's not easy balancing your camera on a rock at 3000', particularly for someone as challenged as myself when it comes to photography.x
