Hi Janey
thank you ... yes its the Shield fern I do have quite a lot of ferns but only know the name of three or four of them, yes find a spot and replant think it deserves it ...
Glad you like the Sarracenias they are a bit marmite if you like or not , yes stay in the greenhouse all year getting quite a collection now as I buy one or two a year .
Flowers are amazing remind me of a flying saucer & ‘Joyce Cooper’ had I think just the one flower last year and it stands out from the rest with the copper tones .... pitchers are really good as well ... I will post a few more photos when the pitchers get bigger
thanks again

well that was a lovely blog I love delphiniums but the slugs seem to too.
Oh that fern definitely deserves to be in the ground Janey, it is a survivor and no mistake.

Perhaps it's being a bit contrary but my favourite pic was the fern growing in front of the Acer. So glad your Magnolia has eventually flowered - the reward of patience. its a beauty.

So pleased you put the name to Joyce Cooper Sarracenia, she a bit different to the reds and yellows. Mine are doing well and in bud, having been outside all year under the open carport.
You're certainly making good use of your new greenhouse.

thanks all
Seaburngirl I have put in some hours with the delphiniums someone told me they are called the "Queen of the border" well they are being treated like one , for years I have tried to grow them without great success so I was determined so joined the Society and read up on them.
Stera its a good combo with the fresh green of the fern next to the deep maroon of the acer & Siris good to know yours are coming on well ....Oh yes the greenhouse is just the best ... even when its raining !!!

I've had to check out the Sarracenias Gg....I couldn't grasp how it flowered....aren't they beautiful and so unusual....
I've found a place for my fern....I feel quite bad about leaving it all this time....ill be planting it tomorrow Sbg....they're like the dinosaur of the plant world aren't they?

Oh yes Ferns have been around an awfully long time and they have a really fascinating lifecycle. Motile sex cells and two types of generational growth.

You certainly are making use of the g'house Gnarly, I've enjoyed seeing how your garden is doing, I'm with Stera and my fav was also the Fern with the Acer, both firm favourites of mine, I'll look forward to seeing your Delphiniums, I only have one clump now but it does me proud every year, 4ft in height at the minute and the flower stalks are only just beginning, its strange but try as I might, I just cannot get anymore to establish and I have tried, lost my Cherry Blossom last year...Lovely blog and pics..
9 May, 2018
thanks Marjories I have a pink lawn now lol now the cherry tree has dropped 90% of its petals
Linclass , yes I love ferns and acers in fact acers are the oldest plants I have in the garden two I bought nearly 30 thirty years ago , I cant wait either for the delphiniums as I have about 5 new varieties so all will be new flowers I have never seen before ... look forward to see yours when in flower
I think we need the warmth of the BH back !!

I've enjoyed your photos very much Gg....especially the Sarracenias. I've only seen them before as the pitcher, never with a flower....how unusual and incredible they are...do you over winter them in the greenhouse?
Also your fern, is it the Shield fern? I've been gardening all morning and came across my old Shield fern under twigs and prunings from my Silver Birch. I'd dug it up a couple of years ago, never replanted it and here it is, full of fronds even after the winter we've just had! I think it's earned its place back in the garden, don't you??
