Good, bad & ugly in my April garden. Part Three

Now moving around to the front, not much of a garden, more a wide verge adjacent to a foot path, thus there are no large shrubs, prickly items or “easy pick” flowers.

Near the front steps are some lilies, and accompanying the lilies are lily beetles. I keep squishing them as I spot them but there are always a few that escape

On the other side of the steps I have very poor soil with clay close to the surface. I have designated this area as a wild flower garden.
I leave it to get on with it, some of the flowers that grow well here are Evening primroses, sedum and red campion shown here

And good old dandelion of course

In troughs are some large flowered pansies for Spring

Non permanent are pots of Loniceras, given by Stregram as rooted cuttings for me to plant in the border I tend for local charity.
However winter weather and then Cov 19 has temporarily prevented planting them in their final spot

They are in pots, now settled in and with fresh shoots. They will be re-potted again if the lock down does not ease in next month or so

Those beetles are so pretty and yet so destructive. Nice pansy close up, and Red Campion is one of my favourites. I have lots of it in my wildflower strip under the hedge, ans some named variety in the raised border too. They will be in flower here soon, but not yet.

Lovely close up pics..lots of great colour. Yes, that dreaded beetle, it obliterates the lily sadly.
