Beth Chatto leaves us aged 94.
She died peacefully at home with family.

There’s more about her life in the link.
What a wonderful pioneering lady she was, her gardens are inspirational to all those that visit. How marvellous to still be able to walk round the grounds, checking on things, giving instructions & enjoying the many lovely sights to be seen. This she did right up into her 90’s.
RIP, Beth.

She taught us to put plants in their natural habitat.
Shade loving plants in shade spaces etc.
RIP Beth.

Thanks for letting us know.
How sad, my hero! Her books are amazing and her shared knowledge of plants and inspiration will carry on in my garden.
Beth Chatto's mantra has always been 'The right plant in the right place'.

Sad to lose her but her inspiration & knowledge will live forever as she continues to inspire us through her books & gardens. A life well lived.

Isn't it great though that an individual's knowledge lives on

Thanks Green finger - a tribute to a gracious lady. A few years ago I was enjoying coffee with friends in front of the café at Beth Chatto's garden, and she came out of her bungalow, walked past us and said "Good morning" - a treasured memory!

She was such a lovely lady. An excellent creative gardener. She was also a well known Flower Arranger. She demonstrated at our local Flower Club several times.
Rest in peace Beth Chatto

A treasured memory indeed, Sheila.

Thanks for letting us know. Why don't they put things like this on the news instead of the rubbish they gabble all the time.
16 May, 2018
Probably because she wasn't a celebrity or a pop artist, agree about the rubbish they gabble on about.

that is indeed sad news. I have been away so not seen any news for 4 days.
I also have never been to her garden but I hope her garden will be open for future generations.

Yes, I’m sure it will Seaburn: the Beth Chatto Garden is now run by her granddaughter.
