We had really bad winds on the south coast last night…. ive lived down here for 9 years now and ive never heard such strong winds in the summer….something to do with the spring tide as well i think which is a really high tide…. as im only a few mins from sea front we got the full blas tof the winds from 11.00 las tnight and most of today.. i think itsd easing off now…
we usually only get these wind sin the winter…. my poor flowers are all battered…. and i nearly lost the Hollyhocks as they are so tall they got bent over…. hopefully its the back of it now and the plants will recover… it was sunny this afternoon and all my pots dried out….. it looks like rain so i may escape from having to water them….
hope you all are ok in your gardens…..

Most of my garden has been battered too, I live in SE London and my garden looks terrible, what a shame, have tried to tie up some plants but they look awful, this is why I get so down hearted about the garden !!

Hi Holly. Sorry to hear of your dreadful night's weather. It must have been frightening for you. I hope your garden is all right now and not too much damage been done.
We have heavy showers and it's a bit 'breezy' but nothing too bad. I hope it will be calmer for you tonight in South of England

I have got these winds today as I explained on your picture Holly, the weather forecast yesterday said we are going to get the worse on Friday so perhaps I can say good bye to most of my garden, especially if the trees from the graveyard next door come down, my wisteria is down over my door also my climbing rose.

I was just worried about my garden Hywel as there are three large trees right up against my fence and if they go heaven knows what damage they will do, and if they brake the fence, I shall have to pay for it the occosiation won't replace, the people of the church most are not nice people either. I have had cross words with them before about all their leaves and their response was very rude and arragant, these are the people who claim they are christians hugh
Its been going all day to day Holly so I expect even worse to morrow not less it blows itself out.

Very heavy winds here in Kent too - lots of plants now lying horizontal and small twigs, leaves and petals everywhere. All my fences are still standing and so are the huge trees behind me around the pond. Having had three trees come down into my garden in the 10 years I've lived here I do feel nervous at times. Hope everyone has got off as lightly as me. Sunshine and a bit breezy this evening so I am just off for a walk with Millie and some of my family.

here in the midlands we had two thunderstorms yesterday and really heavy rain and strong winds but luckily for us from the southwest -- the gardens more protected from that way --its north/easterlys that I dread, hope you all come through OK, remember my friends Nr brighton talk about the storm of '87........

I have family in Brighton and as I read your comments I was thinking about the storm of '87. My in-laws spent the night under the stairs. I hope you all don't suffer a storm of that kind. Very heavy rain is our problem in the west of Scotland. Our plants are being flattened by rain. I think wind is much, much, worse.
Best wishes to you all
Linda

Sorry Holly hit the like by mistake, its been blowing a bit around here all day with very heavy showers, just as the flowers perked up after that long dry spell, they are now getting bashed down again, obviously not as bad inland thank goodness.....

Hi Holly, as you know I'm about 9 miles West of you and heard the wind ripping through the trees all night, surprised to find not too much damage this morning. Leaves and fruit from the Plum trees nearby were everywhere. In my own garden, 2 tops off the lights were thrown across the garden, many Poppies and Cosmos all leaning over and twigs from neighbours Beech tree on the lawn ! I was out there at 7am with string, scissors and a very cross look on my face as I tied the Hollyhocks to fence-top trellis. Last time I remember it like this was Sunday 12th July '98 as the British Grand Prix was on, OH and son were there, drenched to the skin. : o ((((((((

Sorry you have had such bad weather Holly, but pleased it didnt do too much damage. Been very heavy rain here, typical when we have a hosepipe ban but at least it saves me carying a heavy watering can around!
